Curious to see which prospect fans think will be better next season if they are both still on the team. I think I’m still higher on Zboril still, it looked like he had more skill at times and if he puts it together consistently he’ll be a really good defenseman in the NHL.

I think it's Lauzon. His skill level is underrated and I think he's part of the solution if they can get through the expansion draft and not have him claimed by Seattle.

Zboril looks better. Smoother stride, better technique, better stickhandler, more athletic overall. But I still question his hockey IQ not a by a little but by a lot. And I'm not sure what role he's going to carve out in the NHL. He's not going to be a point producer from the blue-line. Statistically his shot selection is very poor, I have my doubts he's ever a PP guy.

Meanwhile 11 D-men who dressed for this team last year averaged more PK time than he did. Can you afford to dress a D-man with no special teams role at all? It certainly increases the responsibility to the other 5 guys.

If the Bruins can find a way to get Seattle to take Zboril over other exposed guys by adding a little sweetener then that is an avenue they should be pursuing.

I mean, obviously Lauzon. More NHL ready, better all-around game.

That said, the first few weeks of this season, Zboril was pretty impressive. He showed great vision on breakout passes, reminded me a bit of Ference in that. Then I don't know exactly what happened, whether the NHL schedule wore on him, whether he had injuries, or what, but he wasn't anywhere near the same guy after mid-February. I'm hoping he regains that form once he adjusts to being a full-time NHLer.

He wasn't idle all fall/early winter and was playing in the Czech league prior to the NHL camps starting up. So he had a leg up on a lot of other players and in the early going he looked sharper and more game-ready. He looked great in the early part of the season.

But once the rest of the league got up to speed, Zboril came back down to earth.

At this point, it’s probably safe to assume both have bottom pair ceilings in terms of a cup roster. Can play the occasional 4 spot but really best suited for a 5 or 6.

Zboril still shows more flashes of potential but still seems significantly further away, and at 24 going on 25 that’s not a good thing. I’ve said this a few times, but to my eyes Zboril’s mistakes are mistakes of inexperience, where Lauzon’s are mistakes of low hockey IQ.

Neither probably develop much of a scoring touch at this level so I guess I would take Lauzon, but ultimately both players are incredibly replaceable in my eyes.

seattle will claim lauzon in expansion draft. Francis likes big young D with some bite. ( lauzon fits what they will want ) unless
they leave debrusk unprotected.

That angle on mistakes being inexperience vs. hockey IQ is a really interesting one and probably important to tease out for for the coaching staff . Makes a lot of sense.

Just not enough positive flashes from Zboril. If he stays on the team, I really hope he puts it all together but the compete level and consistency from Lauzon has been so much higher so far.

I was snookered by him just being ahead of everyone. I think its Lauzon at 5 on 5, but not an unsurmountable gap for rookie defenseman at all.

Your special teams argument makes the choice clear as day that Lauzon is the only choice.

I actually think it's the opposite.

So was I in the early going. He was even my pick to be the 3rd D protected in the first couple weeks. But then the bloom fell off the rose so to speak.
