You also forgot Freibourgs, last season leading defensman scorer for USHL..... His situation is strange: Played 33 games in Latvia so got suspended 33 games for the NCAA. So he is redshirting this season (only practises with the team)..... Why doesn't he just play for Riga in the MHL for a year? Why didn't he play in the MHL before when he decided to play Latvian pro?

Perhaps a better question is who the hell is his agent?:help:

Why is he suspended? He played in Latvia over 3 seasons ago. He's played recognized junior hockey for the past 3 years and he has to serve a suspension in NCAA now?

I don't get it..

Because Jr. leagues don't have regulations against playing pro before playing in them. If a kid has played in a European pro league before playing in their Jr. league, they don't care.

Its Freibergs and why go to Russia when he had a nice situation playing in Dinamo Juniors? Why have him move to Russia to play against lesser quality players when he can get a real test against BOL players. Freibergs has never turned pro, its the NCAA in their weird rulings a Junior kids playing pros is a no-no and I assume they treat the HK Orange 20 kids the same way.

Perhaps he is happy getting his education right now, spending time with his team mates and just dosnt want to return to Latvia. What do you expect his agent to do? See the future path of Freibergs, both Freibergs and BG knew it was a possibility and he still wanted to attend school. They have tried to get NCAA to reduce it and see he was only Junior player who is playing pros, but they dont seem to want to.

Seriously? If you are serious about a professional hockey career, sitting out for an entire year will hurt, if not kill you. If he cared so much about getting free schooling, then his agent would have advised him years ago not to play pro, but to go to Russia to play a higher quality junior hockey... I forgot that hockey players aren't rocket scientists.

:shakehead Maybe go a bit further and make an assumption that his parents are stupid too, no? Jesus, there's a good chance that he didn't have an agent at all three years ago. And this leading USHL scorer took him by a surprise and so this NCAA ban.

A couple of (very) young latvian prospects playing in scandinavia:

Edgar Treijs (1998), Linköpings HC U16, http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=208298
At the start of the season he has put up 6 goals and 4 assists in 2 games in a series where most players are born 1997. He has great skill, a very fast and accurate shot and seems to never lose his calm.

Rudolf Balcers (1997), Lörenskog U17, http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=153652
Plays in Norway, but his team took part in a highly touted hockey cup in Sweden last weekend. Even though his team ended up last, without winning a single game, he scored 11 goals and had 2 assists in 5 games. He seemed well developed physically, big and strong. Also pretty speedy and got himself into scoring positions and obviously had the skill to use it.

The problem with edgars is that im not sure if hes latvian citizen or not, because this year he played for tv pucken which is as i understood, only for swedes, well have to wait information from treijs himself about which country he will represent internationally -Latvia or sweden. So i will not add him until theres confirmation

Anyone know anything about Girts Zemitis? He has scored three goals in four games in the MHL this season (don´t know if those stats have been updated recently on Eliteprospects). He´s a 1995 born defenseman and plays for HK Riga, the same team where Rihards Bukarts and Georgs Golovkovs play as well.

Looks like he was sent down to our MHL-B team HK Rīga Juniors.

After watching both HK rīga home games it seems that Rihards Bukarts is stagnating, but on the other hand Golovkovs looks great.
Could it be that Rihards is having motivation problems or it`s that he just happens to have an unlucky streak?

At the end of the day he's not playing anywhere this year which is very stupid. My point was that he should just look at other options. Missing a whole year of hockey in your developmental stage is about the worst thing you can do. There are many other options available ie. CIS, EuroPro etc... Its just going to look very bad if he is out of tune next season and doesn't see a lot of ice because of it.

Bukarts scored goal today against Yunost.Seems like Rihards is more successful on away games then home games,oh well.
