As I understand the rules to this point a team can expose any eligible player they want but they are required to ensure that at least four of them meet certain contractual and on ice requirements. I think this is consistent with previous expansions.

Yes, the minimum is 2F, 1D with 40/70 games played and 1G with contract or qualifying offer. But that doesn't mean that all others are exempt, only exempt are players with less than 3 pro years. And then there are UFA Vegas can sign as a draft choice too.

While teams have to expose the minimum (perhaps signing and/or trading for players to fit those needs), it's more telling which players are protected (1G, 3D/7F or 8S).

How will the sportsbooks handle Vegas? Will they be excluded from betting?

I doubt it. The gaming commission moved the responsibility of keeping local game bets legitimate to the casinos a decade or so ago. Meaning that the casinos can take local action, but risk major fines and discipline from the GCB if it's found they should have reasonably suspected that someone involved in the game put down a bet on the game at their place.

Meaning if Bill Foley came in and bet on the Knights the casino would be obligated to decline his money or face GCB action. If the Maloof family buys into another casino, they'd likely be barred from taking money on the Knights since they're involved with the team and the book.

At least that's how I understand it.

That's correct BB. Back when the Maloofs owned the Palms/Cannery you couldn't place bets on the Kings(basketball) there.

Right, and you couldn't bet on the UFC at Stations since Stations pretty much owned the UFC. However, I think that's Stations making the call to avoid GCB discipline versus the GCB requiring that Stations doesn't take the action.

Friedman reports
Owner Bill Foley has informed the NHL he intends to complete payment by March 1, instead of April 1. That means his club will get a chance to compete against other teams for NCAA or CHL free agents.

Clarification that Foley and GMGM will be able to sign those undrafted free agents starting March 1, along with the rest of the league.

And GMGM will also be able to attend the March GM meetings.

So, no TDL trades.

Depending on when they make their final payment they probably won't be able to sign college and overage junior free agents either. If they're going to be sharing an AHL affiliation next season maybe they didn't see a need to sign anyone right now.

Kind of interesting how all the copyright talks and worries have disappeared...guess the front office has it taken care of

It's going to take a while. Trademark work is extremely slow and inefficient, it can take a year plus without any complications. I'm guessing we don't hear about it much again until after the draft.

Per quoted article above, NHL and NHLPA have not yet said the final word on releasing protected/exposed lists.

With fan and MSM outrage at the announcement lists would not be made public, I think they're rethinking their position and rationale.

What would be the rationale for keeping them secret? I hope it's not because the league somehow feels that the players need to be kept in the dark about their status. I don't think the players are that fragile that they couldn't handle word that they've been made available to Vegas. I think they can figure that stuff out for themselves. And why would they be concerned if their availability was made public?

I can't see why we, as Vegas people, would want them released.

Imagine the six people on the exposure list that we don't pick, what if they wanted to come here? I don't know that we should be so interested in 72 hours of excitement that we'd want the chance to put chips on other players shoulders when the Knights don't select them. Plus, the management team doesn't get second guessed for the people they didn't take.

Keeping them secret seems like it benefits the Knights more than anyone else.

Second guessing expansion GMs and trying to drive them into the nuthouse over it is a part of the expansion draft fun. If we can't drown them in insults and name calling and online shaming then what's the point?

As for the players not chosen to go to Vegas - I hope there will be counselors available for those who aren't chosen. How ever will the poor dears be able to function with that kind of rejection hanging over their heads?

I get what you're saying, I just don't see why we'd want it. It's not going to be a major disappointment in anyone's life, I just see five years of "players the Knights missed in the expansion draft" stories and threads if the lists were public.
