Youre bascialling signing up for Marcus Foligno's contract and production. I thought we all laughed at the contract that was handed to him....

I mean, if youre gonna give out that contract to someone to play 3rd/4th line it better be to a Lars Eller player. Someone who has scored 12-18 goals consistently.

3y $7m or 4y $10m. I absolutely want to re-up Johan, he is and will continue to be an important role player going forward as this team grows. His ability to play tougher matchup minutes, FO and fantastic PK work can't be tossed aside willy nilly, as someone mentioned in GDT, he's probably the 4th most important F on this club right now and as the F's fill in around him he'll continue to lock down his role without having to worry about it. We probably don't need to go more than 4ys though, cause when the time comes that he's UFA, he wouldnt cost too much at his age for that role if he's still effective.

Johan was half expecting to be out of the NHL before signing his current deal. He’ll be happy with 2.0 - he’s never been over 17 pts. He’s a great 4C/defensive specialist, not a top 9 player on a good team.
I want him extended but he’s not getting 33% of a Skinner deal ;-)

This, I mean come on. This was his last season if he didn't turn it around. Last year people were trashing him like crazy. He has done well on the 4th line but handing a 4th liner 3.5m for what Larsson is doing and Asplund can probably do better makes no sense. Give him a 2 year 2m deal or he can move on.

Botterill holds out on Reinhart for months and then turns around and gives Larsson almost the same AAV? Yeah, I don’t think so.

Larsson is a $2.5m player at most.

Literally, at most! I get he has been useful this year, but to sign him to anything more than 2 years is downright irresponsible.

Ask yourself this, would anyone sign him to a 3+ year deal at $3m! Hell no! If we sign him to 3 years or longer, we are stuck. No one would EVER trade for him.

Most people think Asplund's celling is middle six, likely bottom 6. He is full replacement for Larsson. If Larsson leaves this year cool, we will sign Zemgus for a 2 year deal, and if not him, then someone else that we can get out from under 1-2 years.

I wouldn't mind keeping him around, him and Zemgus are two fantastic 4th liners. But yeah, anymore than 2.5 and I'd be questioning what the hell Botts is thinking.

2 year 3.5 million. I wouldn't do much more if any. Larsson has been great but he's a 4th liner and PKer. Most wanted to waive him at the beginning of the year.

If he asked for more than 2 a year, I'd find someone better.

He is a 4th line defensive forward.
He does his job well but since he doesnt provide any offense 2-2.5 should be the limit.

Once you have your stars, you pay your stars. Then hopefully you've drafted well enough to replace your complimentary players when they price themselves out of your cap structure.

Larsson has become one of this team's more valuable forwards, but he's no star, and overpaying players like him is where you get into cap trouble.

Unless you're Tampa.

Asplund is there to take Larsson's spot if Larsson wants too much

Larry has been excellent this year but he has 6 points and has never eclipsed 17. I don't think he has much of a case at all for anything over 2 million

Larsson tops out at $2 mil per year, max. No way a 4th liner worth any more than that.

When I saw this thread, I thought Larsson had just been re-signed. I was going to say “wow, Botterill got him signed to the exact same thing as his last deal?! Not even a tiny raise?”.

Then I looked at the date of the post/tweet.

Expecting Larsson and Girgs to be let go at the end of the year or traded at the TDL. Will be happy if at least one of them comes back.

Jack Edwards was effusively praising him last night. As for his next deal, he should be happy with a deal around $1.75m. He was overpaid last year and is probably earning his salary this season. I’d offer him a one-year extension for $1.75m. For a 4th liner, that’s a pretty good living.

Nice thing is that assuming Asplund ends up only being a 4C (which I think he will) he slots in nicely if Larry walks. If Asplund ends up as a 3C you have a nice 1/2 punch on the bottom 6.

Bruins people know the value of annoying/dirty-ish checking players.

Prior to this year I thought Larsson wasn't capable of playing hockey, I figured the injuries had crippled his career. He has definitely proven me wrong and I definitely wouldn't mind having him back, but the price has to right. If he starts to get up into Kruger or Beagle territory (3M AAV), then no thanks... I worry that someone else might be willing to pay the price for him though.

I agree...anything of $2M/yr. is overpayment. That said, I think he'd be happy to sign a 2 year extension for $4M, with the chance to get another decent contract before he's 30.

I'd be willing to give Girgs a 3 year deal for about the same money. They're both excellent 4th liners, who can move up to the third line as needed, and even temporarily on a scoring line. These are the types of players Cup Contenders have in their Bottom 6. You can't be afraid to pay them a marginal raise, as we've seen, prospects don't always turn out like we think they will.

I'd rather have Aplund come up when he's fully ready, and hope that he can take the minutes that Sobotka is currently being gifted.
