Larry Bird is stepping down as president of the Indiana Pacers, The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears has confirmed. General manager Kevin Pritchard will take over the team.

The news was first reported by The Vertical.

Among Bird's biggest accomplishments with the team was drafting Danny Granger in 2005 and Paul George in 2010. The team selected Kawhi Leonard in 2011, but traded his draft rights to the Spurs for George Hill.

A reason for Bird's departure has not been confirmed, but sources told ESPN's Mike Wells that the plan had always been for Bird to strongly suggest to owner Herb Simon that Pritchard take over as president when Bird eventually stepped away. Simon has kept Bird on year-to-year contracts for years.

He gonna do what Magic did... Join the team that drafted him, won championships with, and spent his entire playing carer with.

EDIT: Never mind. He's not leaving. He just demoted himself.

I'd love to see him in some capacity with the Celtics but Danny Ainge isn't going anywhere.

Where did you get that ???? According to CBS Sports Orlando is considering bringing in Bird and/or Kevin McHale to run the team.

from cbssports.com:

The Orlando Magic are looking for new leadership, and they are reportedly considering two former Boston Celtics legends. Shortly after reporting that Larry Bird was leaving the Indiana Pacers on Friday, The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Magic are interested in him:

USA Today's Sam Amick then reported that Orlando has "serious interest" in McHale, who has been working as an analyst for TNT after being fired as the coach of the Houston Rockets early in the 2015-16 season. McHale, of course, has previous experience in the front office, having spent 13 years as the Minnesota Timberwolves vice president.

While his resignation had a lot to do with the fact the Pacers have slid downward since those playoff battles with the Heat, I'm not sure he is all that interested in running a team still. Remember, he resigned a few years back but came back after one reason -- a lot of that has to do with him being an Indiana boy IMO.
