I like this deal - a good #5 with #4D upside. Reasonable deal for a player that showed some offense in his first full season.

Wow that's so weird. This forum is so good at telling LA fans what they need I just assumed everyone would be locked in on who Walker is.

Good deal for Walker, imo. Versatile guy can play up and down the D roster and in various situations. Having him as a 3rd pairing guy due to RD depth is a luxury. Spent some time next to Doughty and held his own for a bit, ideally would be #4-#5, but CAN drive even a 2nd pairing. Voynov-lite. Kind of a righty Martinez if folks need a reference.

Fairly similar resume to Justin Holl and gets a fairly similar contract to him, makes sense. Seems like a solid bottom pair D that can anchor that pair.

I wonder if this sets a benchmark for Ryan Graves' contract.

Both Walker and Graves are 25 years old and have played almost exactly the same number of NHL games to date (109 vs 110).

Seems about right. Surprised he would go for 4 years though, would've figured most 25 year olds would bet on themselves and try to be UFA at 28

You haven’t paid attention to LA in two years then, he’s a really underrated defender. At times he was the best player on the ice.
That's not saying much. (Same comes from a Ducks fan about any player on our roster)

Good comparison. Justin Holl, as @Empoleon8771 mentioned, is a good one too. Holl is a bit older (28), and played a bit less (81 games). So he got a bit less (6 million over 3 years).

Thats a good estimate for a late bloomer, defense guy, who can be a possible top 4.

LA did good with this Walker deal, as far as I can tell.

Normally I would agree. The Kings did Walker a solid by tearing up his old contract to give him a better one when they did not have to do so. Perhaps (my speculation) this is a return on that.

I've been estimating that Graves would get between $2.5 x 2 and 2.75m x 3, and this Walker deal seems to be about in line with those. Hopefully we can get Graves on a similar deal to Walker, albeit a year shorter perhaps.
