There were a few problems with Laine in Winnipeg, which could've been very easily resolutions with the Winnipeg Jets in his case, the others being from my understanding was his relationship with Wheeler and Scheifele. But everything was all set for him there, but the other issue was he believed he was worth a lot more money and was the face of the franchise.

Laine, even at his very best, is not a face of a franchise. He's worth at most $6M AAV when playing at an above-average level of hockey. I still think he's a good player, Columbus is just a very horrible fit for him.

If he's going to rebound somewhere I believe he could do it in Winnipeg again as I could see him returning to Winnipeg. But I wonder if Columbus exposes him to Seattle, which I also believe wouldn't be a fit for him just yet. I honestly believe the four best options for him are Florida, Colorado, Carolina or Edmonton. He just needs to take a bridge contract to prove himself.

And that would still happen regardless of who's HC. Laine just outright stinks.

Nah. Play him a ton on the powerplay with a good playmaker and watch him rack up the goals. Then trade him for a ransom to some poorly managed team that overlooks how badly one-dimensional he is.

The Finnish media is obsessed with Laine. He gets more media-attention than Barkov or Aho.

Hey guys Laine played one shift on the fourth line before getting promoted to the first line with Texier and Atkinson.

Torts does this all the time. All. The. Time

Well to be fair, Texier isn't really more than a bottom 6 this season.

Which unfortunately for the blue jackets means he’s on the top line.

I thought he would become a good top 2 center a few months ago. He started good and looked promising

Bottas sucked given how fast the car is, Finnish media would rather talk more hockey than F1.

Laine's season has been really bad. There is no two ways around that. BUT! I have a hunch that comments saying things like "He will be out of the NHL soon" will look REAL silly in a couple of years.

Laine was bad this year. Columbus was bad this year. Columbus with Torts was a bad fit for Laine this year. That doesn't mean Laine is suddenly completely done as a goal scorer at 23 years of age. If he was 36, yeah, for sure, but not at 23.

People tend to be so quick to overreact, both when players do really well AND when they do really bad.

A new season or a change of scenery could completely revitalize Laine. See cases Taylor Hall and Sam Bennett. Some people were so sure they were done and sucked.

Jesus Christ for the stubborn idiots in NHL.

Your point is..? He was doing fine in Winnipeg (actually fantastic in his first game of the season), and it went downhill for Laine after the trade. What I mean is that changing scenery to a more favorable position again could be big for him.

Bennett is not playing this well just because he changed scenery and has a new motivational boost or something. A big factor is that he is in a much more favorable position now: Better team, bigger role, better teammates. better fit etc. It's the same with Hall and Sabres -> Bruins.

Laine is a goal scorer, who is going to score a lot of goals if he is put in the right circumstances. He is far from something like McDavid or Barkov, who score no matter what. That is his problem as a player, and Columbus has no good playmaking centers and Tortorella has not created a good situation for him to score. As it is, I don't think Laine is a very useful player for Columbus. That doesn't mean he couldn't be a useful player for another team that would be a better fit; that's where the change of scenery comes into place.

I would still take Laine back for Dubois and Wheeler.
