Laine has already 70% amount of assists than he had in the whole last season

So the plan all along was to wreak his back, have a terrible 3rd season, fix his back, sign a bridge deal and then cash in?

Haha Chevy, you got played by the master plan.
His back problems started already before he started even training with the present trainer. They have been consistently working on strengthening his back every year, but despite that he has had the similar back problems for at least 5 years already. Some seasons they have bothered him more than some others, but so far he hasn’t been able to completely avoid those problems during any seasons. Hopefully they have been able to fix the situation finally, as at least Laine himself has said that at the moment the back isn’t bothering him at all.

The problem has been exactly that his core muscles have been way too weak, and they have had to find ways for his training to strengthen his back in ways that wouldn’t though cause too much stress on the back muscles. But they haven’t been able to fix it at least before

You think that you are funny and smart with your comment, but in reality your comment shows just how much you are lacking knowledge on Laine as a talent and with the challenges that he has had on the physical side, despite being skillswise extremely talented.

I'm going to enjoy these Laine and Matthews threads for the next 15 years
If Laine can stay on this level, they Will be a real debate.
Right now he looks like a complete package. Throwing hits, scoring, passing, breaking up plays. He has it all.
This doesn't look like one of his scoring streaks earlier. He seems to have taken a massive leap in his development.
Jets may be in for a rough negotiation when his contract expires.

Laine's Takeaway/Giveaway ratio is currently 7-1. With this pace of being a puck thief he would equalize with his last season's Takeways in Game #20, while his Giveaways would get equal only in Game #48. But that is footnote to his Hits count. If continuing with this season's Hits/game pace full season, he would have accumulated 197 hits at the end of the season. That's pretty nice hitting pace considering his NHL-career of previous 3 seasons brought 224 hits to his account.

Yes, yes. Its early season, October, minuscule sample set and all, but if the start is anyway indicative how to things are going to change in Laine's play, my biggest concern is does he be able to keep him healthy with this new style of powerforwarding. Otherwise there are no negative things in this new trend.

Confirmed Hockey Rumours said:
Maurice: "You must get involved more to corner battles and heavy duty, Patrik! Enough for idling and coasting!"
Wheeler: "Ugh! Boss! Patty, you heard the man!"
Patrik: "k"

*silent, intense processing in the brain of Laine*

Season 2019-2020 starts and Laine just turn on his hyper accelerator device, and start play like Eric Lindros.

The reason Laine is dominating now is because of the good luck charm from the tattoo that he ripped off from Matthews :sarcasm:

Leads the league in points, assists and +/-. If those don't make a superstar then there are zero superstars in the league currently.

On top of 4 points he had 8 hits last night. How many did your superstar have?

When Laine is still leading the league in points in Feb we will talk.
5 games is no where near a big enough sample size to make any determination on what Laine will do this year. As a Jet fan for 47 years I love his start and truly hope he keeps it up but only time will tell if Laine can keep this up.

I sense that you're starting to consider the possibility that Laine is a lot better than you thought he was. That's good, we'll check again in February.

He needs still more power in his legs. I expect him to hit his prime at around 24yrs old or so and that may go on to his 30s ofc

I will agree to that. His physique has a lot of room for growth, he's far from his physical prime. He has work to do on those legs for sure, and still can learn better edgework. All of that comes with time and work. He works hard and is very self aware about what he needs to improve, so only injuries would hold the progress back.

But even at this stage he has a 100+ pts season in him.

Im not a fan of Laine but its pity and somehow funny how he gets treated in Hfboards. Im 100% sure if Laine had 0 points there would be threads mocking him how he is still addicted to fortnite and etc...

I think Laine has deserved this thread, only because of the s*** people have been throwing into him due to last season.

Can't wait for Karlssons redemption thread.

Another 2 points from Oilers' leading PP-specialist. Gonna be hard for Laine to keep up with that kind PP-production in the scoring race.

Radical measures must be applied to keep steady assists river rolling on to cover those filthy goals McJesus and co. are producing. :sarcasm:

For those who may wonder, I've personally absolutely nothing against McJesus (beside the fact I'd like to see him playing for some other team). It's just about enjoying a situation where you can poke rather freely with those same arguments that are often used as negative things when related to Patrik Laine. How I would love to see 20 assists October from Laine, and only because of all that bullshit that have been raining upon him absolutely too often... then when it has been deserved, and particularly then when it have not been. Forgive me.

So now he had back problems too? Maurice uses him the wrong way, Little is useless, he has back problems, he will peak later in age, summer training foucsed on peaking later, or summer training was not good, Winnipeg wants a cheap contract, fortnite and so on and so forth. There are certainly not a lack of excuses if things don't go the way the hardcore fans wishes...

Do you honestly think Laine will keep up with McDavid? If he goes on a ten game cold streak now, then what will the excuses be?

Mackinnon had 16 goals, 53 points in 82 games at age 21.
And he wasn't a superstar at that time? What's your point? Laine can become one, but he isn't one. You earn that title, you don't get it based on ifs...

That's why you back up the Brinks truck this summer and get the extension done early.

Count me among those who doubted the dude- I saw him plateau in year 2, regress in year 3, saw his play and heard about attitude issues.. and kinda figured he wouldn't rebound. Still early, time will tell what kinda player he becomes long term, but it's good to see he can put it all together.
