A nice article by Pierre Le Brun on why the Kings are geared up and primed for their quest to claim 3 Cups in 4 years. Some quotes from other NHL exec's and coach and a lot of quotes and thoughts from Doughty.

A pretty good read

Just as importantly, Grumpy remains behind the bench and the Mad Professor is still pulling the strings. Coach Darryl Sutter and general manager Dean Lombardi may not be naturals on television, but their effectiveness at running a hockey club together is almost unmatched right now.

It still feels surreal reading about the Kings winning multiple Cups, them being a "behemoth" and the respect everyone gives them. Decades of suckage have not prepared me for the new reality.

The Kings, this time around, have fully realized they are maximizing the boon of being in LA.

"3 in 4 years" lowers the standards for domintant teams to be considered into benchmark teams in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. "4 in 5 years" is a true dynasty.

"3 in 4 years" lowers the standards for domintant teams to be considered into benchmark teams in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. "4 in 5 years" is a true dynasty.

A 'true' dynasty is predicated upon the era in which they found their success. This cap driven league is not the same as the ones where teams like the Habs, Isle and Oilers did win 4 or 5 prior to evolvement of the league and expansion. This is not that league anymore and that benchmark of success changed accordingly. THe fact that no team has repeated 2 years in a row since the late 90's speaks to that.
If the Kings or Hawks win next year, winning 3 in 5 or 3 in 4 (kings) is a feat that certainly in this modern age would be considered dynastic by any accurate measuring stick.

In this era of hockey. 3 out of 4 or a 3-peat makes a team a dynasty. The days of 4-peats and 4 out of 5 are gone. With the salary cap and a larger league, it changes the standard. Going by those new standards, the Kings are first team in the salary cap era to have a chance of becoming a dynasty.

Actually, the Kings are more than capable of pulling off 4/5, especially when 2/3 is "back to square one". Also, that "3/4" mentality is an NFL mentality. :shakehead

1. A 'true' dynasty is predicated upon the era in which they found their success. It's a mixed bag, especially when the 97-98-02-08 Red Wings and 95-00-03 Devils are not counted as such, as per Hall of Fame in Toronto. Also, "2/3" actually means "back to square one", by all intents and purposes.

Specifically about the cap, we can all thank financial factors and James Dolan for the hard cap, much to the disgust of the rest of the Original Six, let alone the entire league.

Even then, the Hockey Hall of Fame hasn't included the aforementioned Red Wings and the NJ Devils as "Benchmark Teams", and I'm being objective about it.

media keeps stirring this up

personally i would prefer this isn't even discussed openly. it is one thing for DL down to the guys in the room to privately set this as a goal. it is quite another to have the media continue to fan the flames to create a story, sell print and make controversy.

imo, just play and let the results speak for themselves. the team can't get caught up in this sh-ite, it becomes a distraction

This, especially when I personally observe this is what East Coast Bias traditionally does.

Watch East Coast Bias hype up the NY Jets, until they hit 0-16.
