Regardless of that, the Celtics already paid a massive fortune. No need whatsoever to add, even a 2nd round pick. Cleveland's GM better have a target on his back going forward for the way he's carried himself.

If IT can't contribute to the Cavs this season, is it really a fortune?

Cleveland essentially gives a rival a franchise player and takes on an injured player for Crowder and a potential lottery pick. That pick can be very fruitful, but is a risk in itself. Why should Cleveland take all the risk?

If that's really their concern then they could ask for a conditional pick based on if he's able to play. But they're not.

A conditional pick won't make up for the major advantage the Celtics would get in the conference finals. Especially in what could be LeBron's last year in Cleveland.

But is it Boston's own 2020 2nd round pick or Miami's 2020 2nd round pick which Boston might be getting ???? Dammit - what are the conditions of this 2020 pick ???? :dunno:

As more information comes out about Thomas's hip, this trade looks far worse for Cleveland. They better hope Brooklyn is in the lottery this year

Well now the delay makes more sense.

boston.cbslocal.com:

At long last, the Celtics and Cavs trade is finally complete. The C's threw in Miami's 2020 second-round pick to finalize the deal bringing Kyrie Irving to Boston, and the nation is left wondering why the deal was held up for so long over such a small piece.

It turns out that, to the surprise of few, it was Cavs owner Dan Gilbert pulling the strings in Cleveland all along.

As reported by The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor late Wednesday night after the trade was completed, Gilbert was both " calling the shots " and is now " dealing with the fallout " in the Celtics-Cavs trade. The deal hit a snag after it was agreed upon due to apparent concerns over Isaiah Thomas' injured hip. Gilbert was the one reportedly spearheading the " organizational chaos " going on behind the scenes in Cleveland over the issues with the trade.

And apparently, Gilbert isn't even self-aware.

" A state of organizational chaos is Gilbert's M.O.," an unnamed exec told The Ringer. " Gilbert thinks he's the protagonist in the story of the Cavaliers, when, in reality, he's the antagonist."

Man you really could just see the weight of LeBron lifted off of Kyrie's shoulders at the press conference today.

IT now becomes the player with the highest PPG average to change teams during an off-season. If he's healthy and Brooklyn sucks next season, that trade will be the steal of the century for Cleveland.

Cavs already shopping the Nets pick..... there is a rumour that they'll move it for Boogie if Nawleans is out of the playoff picture by Feb. last year Cousins said he would be hitting free agency next summer but if the Cavs could acquire him & win, then re-sign he and IT while trading Love or Thompson.... LBJ would surely stay.
