So? Pete Deboer even famously said, he's one of those guys who played better at the NHL level.

You're obviously just stat watching. Anyone who saw Dadonov play for Florida before he left knew he was a solid player.

And this is what Dadonov was dealt for

Florida Panthers traded Evgenii Dadonov and A.J. Jenks to the Carolina Hurricanes for Jonathan Matsumoto and Mattias Lindstrom

Lol he was trash when he left

Oh so his 15-2-1-3 in the NHL was impressive

Hilarious. I say you're just stat watching, and you come back with a blanket uninformed stat rebuttal. LOL.

Again, you are 100% just stat watching. He was dominant in his first year and was considered a regular. Unfortunately he got banged up that very first year and hadn't recovered in the next season. He got hurt in February 2011. And missed the first month in October of that year. When he came back the Panthers were rolling under a very specific hardworking team identity. Guys like Fleischmann, Weiss, and Versteeg, and Kopecky were carrying the team to their first playoff appearance in 12 years. DeBoer didn't want Dadonov in there because he was scared of giving up chances and his skating wasn't where it needed to be after missing most of the offseason.

DeBoer does the same thing with Labanc in San Jose. He'll constantly bench Labanc. He's a win-now coach.

Keep looking at your numbers bud.

Jonathan Matsumoto and Mattias Lindstrom

That was his value when he left

Because his agent said he was bolting for the KHL unless he was in the NHL. And guess what? He bolted. There's no value there for any team. Especially with how teams were looking at Russian in 2011-12.

Why would nhl teams want a guy who was barely .5PPG in the AHL

Dandonov is substantially better now

I know it's hard for you to wrap your head around since you are a stat watcher and that's all you understand, but, real GM's don't look at the boxscores to determine a players worth. They scout players and realize stats are not transferable nor do they matter but usage, skillset, and fit, do.

There are many good nhl players who have averaged less than .5ppg in the ahl. It's a different paced game for one. That's why the people leading the AHL in points every year aren't doing the same in the NHL. Otherwise Verhaege and Bracco and Carr would be tearing up the NHL.

And yes Dadonov IS better now. But he never left the NHL as a garbage player as you insinuated and I am arguing. He was a solid player and showed TONS of promise and potential.

55-10-10-20 was his career when he left in the NHL

He was waiver fodder when he left... look at Sprong/Ho-Sang

The reason Sprong and Ho-Sang got waived and didn't get picked up, is in a way similar. It's not a question of skill, it's a question of attitude and intelligence. When a player demands ice time, just as Dadonov did, and just as Sprong and Ho-Sang do, teams aren't really receptive and no one wants to deal with that.

Both Sprong and Ho-Sang are extreme headcases (and for Sprong much of the issues arise from his father).

With Dubas negociating you could probably trade Nylander and still not have enough to sign one of them....
Interesting because the only players to get paid bigger money have been his stars. Everyone else is on good to great deals. He's built the best farm team in the league by making similar moves and landing guys for little. I mean, don't look now but 6 in 8 for $925 K.

I agree every team will have to pay stars
But the bottom 6 on every team will be mercenaries just like euro soccer clubs
Pay the transfers for big crowd pleasers
Find global bargains
The NHL is still the classiest safest league in the world
950 grand US is better than a LADA sales job

Isn't Grigorenko is one of the highest paid KHL players? Why would he sign with the Leafs for a $1M (+/-)?

Not sure what he is making this year but a couple years ago he was the 29th highest paid player at $1.1 M. Contrary to what many people seem to believe, the KHL never has been and never will be a threat monetarily to the NHL. That year there were literally only 15 players making $1.5 or more and only 7 making $2.0 or more with the highest at $5.5.

If you can do like Mikheyev and sign for $925 K and put up to date a 0.75 Pts/GP pace, what do you think that does for you?

To give some scope, guys that aren't even in the NHL have salaries 64% that of said 29th highest paid guy and an average of 16 players per 31 teams (or almost the entire roster) make as much or more than that 29th highest paid player.

He is making $1.72M USD in the KHL right now. Leafs would have to offer him $2M AAV IMO

If Mikheyev maintains near his pace, what kind of contract could he expect? This without of course factoring in all the negative things that can come along with life in the KHL.

Could the Leafs even afford a bargain player? They have $382,000 in cap space.
