Yeah Toronto for example wouldnt trade for Kuznetsov anyway and they are quite competetive so not the worst place to end up. Are we sure he wont go to any canadian teams? Montreal often have a lot of russians and playing with McD and Drai should be quite attractive. Minnesota with Kaprizov and a quite good team is also not the worst place. Overall I guess he cares most about location and less about how competetive the team is. As he dont really care that much about hockey according to hiself. So he might not have New Jersey on his list.
Toronto has absolutely zero interest in Kuznetsov.

No reason to add Toronto to the list because there is nothing the Leafs would ever trade to acquire him. It's just a waste of a NTC spot.

Doubt he'd put them on the no trade list even if Toronto was interested. Can't respect any player that shies away from playing in the biggest and best hockey market in the world. Especially when the team is amazing.

  1. Toronto - media pressure
  2. Montreal - media pressure
  3. Vancouver - media pressure
  4. Calgary - media pressure
  5. Edmonton - media pressure and location
  6. Ottawa - media pressure and they suck
  7. Winnipeg - media pressure and location
  8. Arizona - bad team and market
  9. Buffalo - bad team (though New York)
  10. Columbus - bad team, market, location and coaching (at time list was submitted)
  11. Dallas - location
  12. Detroit - bad team and location
  13. Minnesota - location
  14. New Jersey - bad team (though near New York, so possible)
  15. Seattle - might suck, too much unknown about coaches, culture etc.

My hunch is Kuzy would love to play somewhere that has limited local media pressure but is either in, or near, a big vibrant metropolitan city (New York) or party central (Vegas). I think he’d love to be on a team that’s good enough that no one is expecting him to be ‘the guy’ night after night (Pittsburgh, Vegas, Carolina would be good, Buffalo or Detroit would be bad), but doesn’t necessarily care that much whether the team’s likely to win a Cup or two.

I think
  • Staying out of the spotlight (local media/base, roster talent)
  • Great location
  • Coaching and team culture
Would be my expected priorities for Kuzy.

Never say never. What if

Tavares gets hurt and put on LTIR.
Matthews suddenly requests for a trade to Arizona.
They get a new GM who is crazy and obsessed on Kuznetsov.
Something something else happens.

You cant dictate on what happens around and every city you dont put on your NTC-list is possible outcome, although not likely.

Pens is the only team that should be 100% safe, just because Caps wouldnt trade him there no matter what.

Canadian teams has higher taxes, higher pressure, less attraction to euro-players.

Fair play.

But in regards to your last point, KHL players in particular choose Toronto often because they know they will be given a chance. And if they fail, they will be traded to another team that will give them a chance.

Florida is the perfect destination. He's closer to the source, and he could live the full Tony Montana lifestyle there. No state taxes there. Quenville probably ain't scared his his nonsense either.
