Kucherov is an incredible player, but Kane looks like he should be the MVP if the Hawks make the playoffs. Considering he would have won a Conn Smythe and 2 Hart trophies at that point, it should be clear who the better player is

Don't forget he probably should have the 2010 CS as well

Kucherov is the better player.

Kane peaked at 106 points a couple seasons ago. Incredibly impressive season.

However, Kucherov is on pace for 126 points this year. A number Kane has not and will not likely ever approached. They're both skill guys who put up points. The proof is in the pudding.

Alot of this 9 goals ahead business like somehow goals are worth more than assists.

Because a goal is more valuable than an assist

Some sports dont even count the assist

What's worth more in basketball, the 2 points or the assist?

So would you take regular season Selanne over Forsberg?

Generally speaking for the regular season, yes.

There were stretches in their prime for hundreds of games where Selanne was just plain better - such as '95-96 through '98-99. That's 300 games played where Teemu was superior in PPG and massively better at GPG.

Durability is also a huge discriminator between the two. I think on HF durability is really a huge minus because those players don't benefit from the JFK "what if" syndrome. Whereas for the imaginary Forsberg of lore, the sky is the limit. He becomes the most "complete" player ever despite only being healthy enough to play 700 games.

That said I think Forsberg's MVP season is better than any single season Selanne has had.

Yes goal scored are worth more than assists but sometimes the assist is better than the goal. Examples are tap ins and easy rebounds or empty net goals. However, considering the circumstances Kane IMO is just all around better and he's a champion.

What about defense though? That's the problem with the goals > assists argument (on average they are worth slightly more but not more than a primary), a lot of times the better playmaker is the better defensive player.
You have to look at their overall game.

Not just sometimes, I would say many times especially if we're talking about elite playmakers.

Kane is supposedly best he's been (ppg wise). Supposedly Kucherov > Kane this season. Kane good margin in poll.

Kuch finishes with 128 points. The only time Kane hit that number was in junior.

Kucherov easily

Kane's season in '16 was pretty similar in terms of scoring relative to the league. Kucherov has an advantage adjusted to league GPG, Kane has an advantage adjusted to percentage above his peers

Kane doesn’t play with 2 all star line mates...

Lol if you try to argue that the hawks were not stacked for years then you’re a troll. Also Toews and Debrincat are no slouches, and Kucherov only has one all star on his line (point, who was not an all star this year)
