If the players are playing smart there should always be a guy covering (Eberle is really good at doing this). One thing every Oiler forward needs to be aware of is when Schultz is on the ice so they can be ready to drop back to cover him if he rushes.

I actually find there biggest issue to getting caught up ice isn't so much the fact that they overpursue, is the fact that they over pass, and don't put enough ugly shots on net. They lose the puck on a battle on the boards or with a 2nd or 3rd pass that wasn't necessary. The Oilers need to start getting pucks on net more then anything, if someone puts something in front that can be tipped or picked up on a rebound by a driving player then they are going to score more. The kids need to realize an ugly goal counts just as much as a pretty one.

It's funny that all the things you are sayin that the team needs to do more of are things that everyone on here hates on Paajarvi for.

It's much more entertaining to have someone like Hemsky skate into the zone, deke out all 5 defenders skate around the net then turn the puck over at the blue line.

As for the OP. I hope we see a team that wants to set the pace and make the other team adjust to it instead of watching the first 10 minutes then trying to adjust and play catch up.

I never hate on PRV because he at least tries to fit into the mold his coaches give to him, he needs to learn to keep his shot along the ice when he drives like he does, because he's more likely to create a rebound, but I'd rather have him forcing a stoppage in play in the opposing zone then the alternative of turning the puck over and having an odd man rush the other way like many of our players tend to.

I think not over coaching right away is a good idea. As Krueger learns what he has to use then he can bring on a solid system bit at a time.

Also earn respect then use that respect. Krueger is a rookie NHL coach.

I spent four years living in switzerland and often go back to visit friends and fam in the summer.
I asked a swiss friend what he thought about kreuger since he used to coach their national team.
He said he didnt like the way he told his team to aim for 8th place overall as their goal (olympics and worlds).
Basically he was sour because he sets the bar low so as to seem like he's done a good job once his team begins to fail. I hope that won't be the same here.

I feel like that story isn't true...he would not have gotten the job here if that was common knowledge and that is the way he coaches. Is there an article somewhere confirming this or does your friend just have a wild imagination? I remember everything that was said about his international coaching experience was a positive and if anything, helped him get this job. If that was true I don't think they would have been so positive, especially considering the situation the Oilers are in.

Our topsix that is going to be getting the lionshare of toi is extremely young. The key players on this club are very young.

Its a problem if Kreuger thinks "coaching lite" is the way to go here. WE gotta be grooming these youngsters to take it to the next level.

You must have not actually heard what Krueger said. He says he wanted to be lighter on coaching because there wasn't enough time to properly teach everything. If the players have a million different new things to think about without the proper practice, they will be overwhelmed and not play with the quickness and pace he wants. It is going to be a more gradual process this season.

That's silly. Krueger got his NHL job because of the success he had with the Swiss program. They were miles better when he left than they were when he started.

I was referring not only to what got referenced yesterday but some of the comments Kreuger has been making all week. He's been very clear and consistent in stating he's interested in toning down the coaching and has clearly stated that the team was over coached.

I actually find your explanation more helpful than some of what was stated. Looks like I took it too literally.

Anyway MacT had a club playing an entirely different strategy, an NZ, in 06, in mere days or weeks and unwrapped the present for the Detroit Red Wings in the playoffs. The rest was history as the club steamrolled an excellent counter system all the way to game 7 of the SC.

Its not at all impossible having a team playing and learning a good working system in a shorter period of time. This is preparation for playing hockey, not NASA space missions. ;)

Not over coaching is always a good idea.

You have to coach exactly the correct ammount.

And of course, in games where the opposition scores three goals you should score four.

Its just obvious when you think about it.

My mistake, evens is good enough.
