For a long time I really loved this player, he was so exciting to watch and he made the Habs MUST WATCH every night. Such an exciting player.

By the end of his tenure, I was so sick of his drama queen antics, it was just controversy after controversy with this guy.

But you know what? I really do miss being excited to watch the team. This guy was flashy and he finished. He produced. He scored some amazing goals. Subban was similar in that he was extremely entertaining, but Kovy was on another level.

It's kind of sad that today, there is NOBODY on the Habs that makes them MUST WATCH every night.

You can skip 3 weeks worth of games and you won't miss a single ****ing highlight. Not one.

If I remwmber correctly he hd a good relationship with Gainey, he might find it a little different with MB

Man, Kovy was my favorite during his tenure in Montreal. Pure puck magic. But hard-working? I wouldn't go quite that far.

It all depends on how you define what constitutes hard work. He certainly played lazy and selfish hockey a lot of the time. But on the other hand he put in tons of hard work at the gym, he was always one of the last to leave practice, he spent a lot of his free time watching game tape or working on stick handling/shooting drills. Those are all signs of him being a hard worker.

Bergevin probably didn’t like Kovalev in Pittsburgh either since he was friends with Jagr.

I never really envisioned kovalev getting into a coaching type of gig.

I'm surprised he's interested in it

Ya I don't know if he would actually be a good coach.

Does he not own/manage a team in Europe?
I don't think he wants to be a head coach.
But I do not understand why teams don't hire more specialized coaches. Not sure why you need to have only 1 Defensive coach as an example. JJD wasn't much of an offensive Dman, so what tips can he actually give to his Dmen for the offensive aspect of today's game?
One goalie coach, I get that. You have one goalie to really focus on and so you try to bring in the right one to compliment him well.
Up front, there is so many different aspects that could use their own set of coaches or advisors if you rather. Guys like Galchenyuk could seriously benefit from developing their stickhandling skills, bringing in a guy like Kovalev, one of the best players ever at it, could not possibly hurt. Same on FOs, bring in a specialist, etc.

Some teams have the budget for it. The Habs have no problem spending a ton of cash. Bring in more specialists.
I remember the Canucks getting a specialist doctor regarding sleep, which apparently helped players a lot.
Habs should really look at getting more specialists.

Let's hire Janne Niinimaa as head of post game celebrations instead.

I don't know how his relationship with Gainey was, but I do remember Gainey sending him home for a few days. Who knows what was happening behind the scenes, but on the ice, he was struggling badly at the time. I think it was in 06/07. Next season, Kovalev was flat out dominant.

This team badly needs a shooting/offense coach. I can't even understand why the hell our managers don't see it.

He was the last player on this team that was able to make me raise from my seat...

Angry Kovalev was the best, you knew he was going to score when he got angry. He could literally will a goal and nothing was going to stop him at that moment.

Our Manager thought that the D core he assembled was better and you are having trouble understanding how he can't see the low skill level of his forward group?

I heart Kovy. Love that he's saying what ge's saying.

Serious question: Aside from M. Lapointe & Muller, are their any ex-players in our organization who were more than journeymen?

That might be part of the problem, and explains why they treat guys like Radulov and Markov like 4th line grinders, and ignore people like Kovy when they have something to day.
