Don't know much about Anze Kopitar..

and don't really care who is better. Brule is an unbelievable talent. If they are roughly equal... Kings fans have to be very excited. Congrats on getting a great centreman @ #11. Anze's size is very intriguing.. but then again this is the new NHL and Brule is smooth on his feet, has such a subtle deadly accurate wrister..

Game on!!!

Anze's by no means slow. He's not the fastest guy out there but I really don't see his speed being a negative factor to his game. For a guy his size he's actually pretty fast.

Kopitar's got the same wristshot as Brule. It's a thing of beauty. I expect both of them to be top 6 players for many, many years ;)

Brule should do great, size and injury problems is easily "fixed" in the NHL world, just don't send him to the olympics :innocent:

Do tell, how is it such an easy decision?

Well I've seen Brule play more. Kopitar will be an all star in my mind, and should have been taken in the top 5, but Brule I see being the next Doug Gilmour. Obviously I shouldn't have said EASILY, but I'd rather have Brule.

Brule for me, I've not seen too much of Kopitar, but from what I have seen I think Brule has the edge. Nonetheless Brule will probably be far more productive this year regardless, centering Nash and Vyborny.

Yawn.

Martin Brodeur
Selected by New Jersey Devils round 1 #20 overall 1990 NHL Entry Draft

Zdeno Chara
Selected by New York Islanders round 3 #56 overall 1996 NHL Entry Draft

etc.

Draft position means nothing.

The hell with that, lets go with:

Trevor Kidd
Selected by Calgary Flames round 1 #11 overall 1990 NHL Entry Draft

Martin Brodeur
Selected by New Jersey Devils round 1 #20 overall 1990 NHL Entry Draft

Point proven.

Really hard to tell, Kopitar is the real deal too.

In his rookie season in the SEL (well he was 18 playing vs men's), he didn't do much but he bounced back by a nice season. He had tremendous wc's too.

I say Brule by really not much.

Ah got ya. Yeah when you say easily it makes me wonder....

When people say easily that doesn't always mean that the gap is huge... but sometimes that the choice is clear...

What I mean is that the difference isn't huge, but theb little things that Brûlé does, is diehard style might be what will kill him if he keeps the same style in the NHL... but at the same times it just gives him that little extra edge when it comes to be a fan favourite and an inspiration for all his teammates. Probably the same way that it does for the Habs fan when it comes to Saku Koivu.:yo: Gotta love the little guy that gives everything and is willing to take one for the team.

In terms of talent it's not that clear(though I still think that Brulé is the better player here).... Size is and always will be on Kopitar's side and he might be just as usefull in a different way... but for the little extras that Brûlé brings then yes if you ask me it is clear.

Doug Gilmour was drafted 134th overall in the 7th round to St. Louis in 1982. There's another late draft pick who ended up having a Hall of Fame career. If Brule is being compared to Gilmour then that's pretty awesome. Gilmour played till he was 39 in the NHL. I think Brule's and Gilmour's styles are only similar when it comes to grit, determination and leadership. Brule is more of a shooter and Gilmour was more of a passer/playmaker. Brule will have to improve his passing/playmaking to be a successful 1st line center.

I'd like to offer a couple of other comparisons to Brule if I may. Perhaps a better comparison IMO is that Brule is more of a grittier Joe Sakic type player. They are about the same size with similar skill sets. Brule likes to hit more though. Another player that Brule could be compared to would be a less powerful version of Mark Messier. Again similar shooting, passing, attitude, and in this case tenacity traits, but with less size and power. I think Messier was 6'1" and 205lbs. I'm not sure how Brule would fill out but I think he could attain 195 lbs. in weight. That would probably be about 10 lbs less than Messier when he was a young player. Just my opinion and any young player has a LOT to prove before being compared to any Hall of Fame type player.

Since a lot of you have already seen Brule in action, I figured to provide some video clips of Kopitar from last season with Sodertalje, playing in the Swedish Elite League against men at the age of 17-18.

http://svt.se/content/1/c6/51/43/55/20060103-ssk.asx - This one has a nice goal from Kopitar.
http://svt.se/content/1/c6/48/94/42/051117-sskfrolunda.asx - Kopitar goal at 1:45 into the video.
http://svt.se/content/1/c6/47/95/37/2005-1101-timrassk.asx - Kopitar with 2 assists in this one.
http://svt.se/content/1/c6/47/68/68/2005-1027-ssk.asx - Lot of Kopitar and an interview with him as well.
http://svt.se/content/1/c6/47/05/28/2005-1017-lhc-ssk.asx - Go to the 1:25 mark to see Kopitar pull a strong power move to cut from the right side boards to the middle to get past the defenseman and beat the goalie wide stick side. Also go 3:38 in to see Kopitar ring the post with a nice wrist shot from the top right circle.
http://svt.se/content/1/c6/46/70/97/2005-1011-1900sodertaljelulea.asx - Kopitar with a beautiful backhand pass and assist.

Brule will be playing for c-bus this year according to McLean. Kopitar is still trying to crack the roster in LA. So for the short term Brule would appear to have the edge. Good luck to both. :)
