Is there any similarties between kap and kovalev? I only got to see the twilight of his career but he was one of the best in his prime right? Considered one of if not the best shots in the league if I remember correctly?

My memory may be fuzzy, but I don't remember Kovalev bringing the same physical play that Kaprizov is showing us. I could be wrong.

Fiala doesn't have that kind of a shot.
I don’t think Fiala’s shot placement is as good as gaborik’s was, but his release and power is just as good. Either way, by “mitts” I thought he was referring to stick handeing ability, and nobody that’s ever worn a wild jersey has the ability to keep the puck on a string like Fiala can.

I don't know about the release...Gaborik had possibly a top 2-3 wrist shot release all time...Sakic having the best, Semin being in the discussion as well.

It's not a shameful thing to say Fiala's isn't on that level.

Where would Kaprizov be selected in a 2015 re-draft? Here are the top 10 in NHL scoring from that draft....Does he sneak in here somewhere?

Still don’t think he’s in there yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he passes Boeser, Werenski and Konecny sooner rather than later.

Do we have conflicting understandings of what "all-time" means?
Nope... all-time means in league history. Gaborik had one of the best wrist shots all-time. Not THE best, but he's in the conversation. At the time he played though, only Sakic was better... but Sakic likely has THE best all-time, so that's no shame on Gaborik either.

Probably in the mid-teens. You still have positional importance to consider with guys like Strome, Chabot and Provorov.

No, but it's a hell of a shame on a guy like Ovechkin.

Ovechkin probably has the greatest overall shot in history, that doesn't mean he has the best release or wrist shot in history.

It doesn't mean he does, but he does.

Hell, guys like Eichel, Kucherov and Kessel are probably ahead of Gaborik too.

Joe Sakic the best wrist shot in NHL history?

Most people in that thread disagree with you on OV. (This all comes down to personal opinion though)

Either way, Gaborik had one of the quickest, most powerful wrist shots I've ever seen. Fiala has a very good shot, but no... it's not Gaborik good.

Gartner, Shutt, Lafleur, Kovalev......this is a near impossible debate after Sakic which most “experts” seem to agree had the best wrister. Sad that so long after the fact that Gabby is still the brightest star in the Wild sky. And easily.

I know. Gaborik’s snapper was incredible. Fiala’s is on that level too. Stick advancements have changed things a bit, though. These days sticks are made for the puck to be shot off the toe and the release points are Lower. Shots have gotten much quicker. I’d need to see a prime Gaborik with a new stick to really judge, but Matthews has the best release I have ever seen. If Sakic played now, I’m sure he’d be right there too.

I've seen prime Gaborik, I've seen Fiala...I just don't see it with Fiala at that level is all.

The stick Gaborik used isn't that different than sticks today... it was only 10 years ago or so. It's not like the stick Gaborik used vs the stick Bossy used. Huge difference between Gaborik's composite vs Bossy's wood. Both Gaborik and Fiala use similar composites.

Sakic imo was the best, but Gaborik wasn't far behind him. I just don't see Fiala quite in that realm. :dunno:
