Most likely he’s getting a chance to stick as one of the two goalies there after Bob leaves for greener pastures. Korpisalo hasn’t been exactly killing it behind Bob either.

What chance? He's a FA himself at the end of the year and is the third goalie. He won't play more than like two-three games at most unless someone gets hurt. You would trade more than a middle school player for someone you're invested in giving a shot to.

After the high and mighty FB outburst from his unc and how it’s better for his career the hombre hasn’t even dressed for one single contest there. It really furthered the advancement of his career to go be emergency backup for a club that’s getting thrashed back and forth out of a playoff spot.

They may as well have just used the always vague "future considerations".

Lou used to always get rid of the deadweight for future considerations back in the day.

We don't see future considerations trades much anymore.

One other interesting thing worth pointing out, there's usually one backup just about every year, who is a backup and goes on a hot streak tear as a starter.

It was Scott Clemmensen in 08-09 for us, it was Ty Conklin in 07-08 (I think it was? I remember it being the year before Clemmensen and Conklin being a comparable at the time) when Fleury was injured. I'm pretty sure Kevin Weekes had a year like this in Carolina, only it did not result in a playoff berth.

This year's version seems to be either Curtis McElhinney for Carolina or Darcy Kuemper out in Arizona. Kuemper is actually a really good comparable, as McElhinney still seems to be splitting time with Petr Mrazek and it's not exactly a situation where he's the clear cut starter. Kuemper is the clear cut guy in Arizona because Raanta has been injured for months now and was already deemed out for the remainder of the year 3 months ago.
