Replying a couple years later, but Will Butcher got booed every time he touched the puck the first time he played in Buffalo. The reason? When Butcher opted not to sign with the Avalanche, he became a free agent and met with a handful of teams including Buffalo.



Local Denver reporter tweeted a picture of Butcher walking through their airport with a Sabres gear bag which led Buffalo fans to prematurely conclude he was signing with them. So they booed him when he came to town. I could understand Colorado fans being upset with Butcher for not signing, but Buffalo fans? How dare Butcher meet with them, accept some free stuff, and sign with somebody else?
