Proposal: Kings - Flyers

It's not a question, the Kings are dedicated to a total build. Not a retool, a rebuild. Blake stated himself early this season, there are only two players on the roster that are off of the board for a trade, Kopitar and Doughty. Is Gost the difference between making the playoffs and picking in the top 5? Absolutely not. So, there is no reason for the Kings to make this move. Regardless of whether Gost realizes and exceeds his potential. It's not going to help this team on their current projection. This proposal (and I understand that a Kings fan was the one who proposed it) is the very antithesis to the direction this team as been on for a few years now. Trading away pick(s) and prospects, which is what this team covets most makes no sense.

This. Management is really high on their defensive prospects but IF Blake were to bring in a Dman this summer it would be someone that played a role like Greene/Regher.

I guess he should fully recover first, before people can make a half decent offer.
The player from a playing time point of view of view who was screwed over the most in this virus situation was Ghost. Myers was injured 4 weeks and Ghost was playing no matter what. And for the one game Ghost looked very good. He had aggression back drew a penalty by his puck control and other than a little rust issues, he gave flyers fans some hope again(This was game Rusk was so good for Bruins the 85 Oilers might have been shutout).

Does Ghost need full review on knee if I trading for him? Absolutely!

If I am a team that is weak at lhd and can use pp1/2 d man do I inquire? Absolutely. If you are set at pp specialists you pass on Ghost. For Flyers pp1 lhd is Provorov and not a pressing need. Ergo Ghost points combined with bad puck luck his points are down.

The fair offer is a low 1/high 2nd or low second and prospect in 5-8th best range of a team. LHD free market is not filled with pp1/2 specialists. They have the TJ Brodie solid vet types. Would I offer a 2 in the 40-50 range and try to get him cheap? 100% I would.

The problem is with the ED looming 15-20 teams either a)wouldn't keep Ghost or b) wouldn't want to lose their 3rd d to trade for Ghost.

Bottom line is with Flyer improvement the best route to go is keep Ghost and treat as 1 year rental pre ED. If he comes back someone will offer a 1 pre ED. If he is average he is taken in draft and Zamula or York you hope are ready to take over. You can make case IF one time buyout will occur due to virus that you buy out JVR, trade Ghost and use cash to sign Hall. I wouldn't want this but I get the logic why this happens.

agreed 100%. Kings are pretty soft right now. Need some sandpaper and some deterrent for taking liberties on the young guys.

Kings have MacDermid and to a lesser extent Roy, you think they need more sandpaper on the backend? Doughty isn’t soft either. Unless you think MacDermid doesn’t have a spot on the team moving forward (which isn’t entirely unrealistic).

You know how you can tell that a player wouldn't be a fit for your team regardless of how well they are playing on another team? It happens sometimes and sometimes you can be wrong but more often than not you end p being right. Ghost is that player for the Kings. Firstly we don't need him and truly we moved 3D recently who were considered "core" Dmen (Martinez Muzzin and to a much lesser extent Forbort) to make room for some of our younger players. Mikey Anderson has looked absolutely great during his short stint with the team and we have Clague and company all waiting for the chance next season. We are in a rebuilding mode so the ice time will be more valuable to our developing players then it would be in our ambitions towards winning a cup. In a best case scenario if we are lucky enough to get another legit shot at the cup again it won't likely be for another season or two at the very least. A healthy Ghost would be a nice add to any team that has a shot at competing for a cup in the very near future. Your Flyer's luck good and seem pretty close to making a run at it all again, Ghost would be too valuable to part with if I were a Philly fan.

due to injury only. He's a top 4 on most teams and looked great coming back until the season got postponed.
Most teams he is not a top 4. If he is, they have big defensive issues . He would be a 5 to 6 guys on a decent balanced playoff team. Use Washington Pittsburgh tampa Boston as examples. He dont crack top 4. Late 2nd is a decent return.

I'd argue that Ghost would be a top 4 defenseman on the majority of NHL teams. You happened to cherry pick 4 of the best teams in the East. I'd say Ghost easily fits into the top 4 of the Capitals as well. Your return of a late 2nd is awful. No GM in the NHL would agree to that if Ghost was on their team.

A healthy Ghost is top 4 on three of those teams...
