We're just a few days into the season, and the LA Kings find themselves a whopping seven points back of a playoff spot on the HFNHL's Western Conference. Obviously, this is not what GM McEwan expected for his club.
"The playoff picture is not set in stone less than a week into the season" said McEwan, whose club was expected to take a step forward this season. "We've got some climbing back to do, but it's a long season."
Pretty optomistic words for a GM whose club has missed the playoffs several seasons in a row. Still, the fans see that this is a true rebuild and that good times lay ahead. "In the HFNHL it takes up to three years for good players to start playing up to their NHL abilities. The Kings are a young team with loads of upcoming talent but it takes time" said Rudiger Wilson, a long-time HFNHL LA Kings fan dating back to the division-leading days of the early 2000's.
"I'm confident that the Kings will build a winner and add pieces through trades when the team shows its ready to compete."
Cam Ward will again get the start in net for the teams' next game, when they host the Dallas Stars tonight in the first game of a home-and-home. The Stars have already handed LA three losses on the season.
"We'll just keep playing our hearts out, looking for that first win" said McEwan. "The effort is there, the results will come."
