brwosing the stats on the khl site, SKA has had 18 d-man and 32 forwards dress for them this year :)
Not to be the devil's advocate here, but aren't the numbers kinda inflated considering that almost the whole senior team was forced to sit out due to positive covid tests?

Two big disappointments for me so far:
Ushenin bros
Vlad: 24GP - 2G - 0A
Slava: 24GP - 0G - 6A
Just awful. It seems they were healthy scratches today (Lugin and Sharov took their spots next to the Gorshkov). I don't consider Ushenin brothers as players with a spectacular future od something, but by KHL standards they have been pretty good so far.
16G+18A=34PTS in 62GP for Vladislav last season
9G+23A=32PTS in 62GP for Vyacheslav last season

Yeah, they are proven top-6 forwards on a team like Amur and yet.. Definitely not good this year. Especially considering there were rumors they have agreed on a contract with Neftekhimik in the summer and the fact that they stayed in Khabarovsk was considered the biggest win of the offseason.

They are probably pretty hard to move as well at this point.

Very strange season - we are playing like s*** and loosing too often (sometimes disastrously), but we are not that far away from CSKA and can keep the top spot in the East if we win today. In addition to that, players like our Stephane Da Costa are a mystery to me - he scores basically every game, but each time he creates enough turnarounds and breakaways for the opposite team that his goals rarely count for anyhthing. Does he not care about team's overall results?

Ak Bars managed to avoid a true corona wipeout, that goes a long way as far as standings are concerned. Also, you had one of the easiest schedules in the league so far, especially considering what kind of roster SYu were able to ice against you. And within the division, all 4 games against Avto remaining, all 4 games against Magnitka remaining. Lots of so-called 4-point games ahead.

Kvartalnov is in for a fine ride. I am ready to read his excuses:)

I think it's not thread worthy but i'm still curious (it was already done in the past iirc).

What if the 32nd team in the NHL were a team made up of KHL stars? You can create two rosters:

one composed simply of the best players available (which means that you can put pure offensive players on 4th line, no difference).

the second is composed of the best players but also those you could compete in the NHL (or at least try to compete, have the best chance to success). So you must remember about D forwards, high energy checking guys, PK specialists, solid stay at home D's etc.

Then type your predictions of how such teams would do in the NHL. I know it's pure fantasy but why not?

You can use all players registered to the KHL for the 2020/21 season

That seems simple enough. I think a more interesting task would be to create an all-time team of players in their KHL peak. Like 14/15 Radulov, 16/17 Mozyakin, 08/09 Morozov etc. I'm going to try that too. And team like that might have a fighting chance in the NHL.

Try with active players from this season too. I'll post my proposals later on, i hope somebody will join us

I will start with this since it will take the least amount of time:

All-Star showcase roster:

Granlund-Da Costa-Hartikainen
Tolchinsky-O'Neill-Jaskin
Kozun-Shipachyov-Sexton
Tkachyov-Okulov-Danforth

Genoway-Menell
Lehtonen-Larsen
Pilut-Robinson

Pasquale
Askarov

I would pick these guys if it was All-Star game-like showcase. And this way, the second team will be very different.

The team I would go for to survive in the NHL is modeled after 14/15 Buffalo Sabres who were a god-awful team on paper, I think one of the worst if not THE worst in the cap era, but played so well they had to be flat out sabotaged by their own management into getting Eichel. Enough skilled players to score on PP and the rest just plugs who would be willing to work hard. It might seem like the same faulty logic USA hockey used to create their Olympic teams and it clearly didn't work there but I think it's still the best strategy to survive 82 game season as opposed to winning 3 meaningful games in the Olympics.

So I would go with:

O'Neill-Shipachyov-Hartikainen
Slepyshev-Regin-Jaskin
Leipsic-Andronov-Korshkov
Makeyev-Datsyuk-Soshnikov

Tryamkin-Marchenko
Dahlbeck-Lehtonen
Ohtamaa-Dronov

In goal, I would just hope Askarov or Fedotov can emerge as NHL-caliber players and would pick Kovar or Pasquale as a safe option.

Tough to understand why are CSKA playing Sharychenkov over Johansson so much. He stepped in and did a decent job at the start of the season when Swede was injured but overall, his numbers and play are pretty pedestrian.

Torpedo defenders are playing well- The forward core needs to generate more offense they are on the brink of being a fairly solid team.

I mean NT or no NT, how is it possible, at all? There are basically 2 possibilities and both are quite ugly:

1) the KHL rulebook doesn't apply to SKA
2) the rulebook was changed without any announcement and SKA were the first to manage to act on it. Very suspiciously quickly.

They are bottom-5 in goals allowed... Their D core is so bad Paigin was actually a huge help. He and Wideman are the only Ds on that team worth their salt, the rest is just a filler.
