KHL Coverage in North America and Europe

Essentially, it's another mini-lockout, like in 2012/13. Hopefully, quite a few NHL players (if that's contractually possible), especially of European heritage, will join KHL/European teams to play in the meantime, like they did back in 2012/13.

(Too bad my team currently isn't playing in the KHL, but it was great to get to see Ovechkin, Malkin et al to play in my home barn back in that unforgettable 2012/13 season!)

I signed up for nord on a 3 year plan so i dont know how much that will run you but the khl all teams plan on their app is like 7 or 8 bucks. You can buy a single game for $1 if you want to test the app and vpn.

The video streams arent a smooth framerate like when the nhl app is giving you max quality but watchable.

One thing i dont know about the app is how to disable scores. If i want to watch a game i pick one that shows a score and can then view it.

The KHL app is dumb in that there's no "Hide Spoilers" feature in it. That's been a long-standing issue. But if you try really hard, you can manipulate your way around the app and launch an archived stream without noticing the score.

The Russian rouble is weak, so the price for a season-long pass is very low - €30 or €40, the last time I checked? It used to cost double the amount, say, 7 years ago. I'm not buying it until Slovan rejoins the KHL – hopefully, the very next season.

And yes, it's embarrassing you need VPN to watch, but I have Nord anyway, so that's no additional cost to me.

KHL is the only one league if you must purchase for Highlights. In all other leagues you can see easy the Highlights. Even the mighty NHL.

This is VERY frustrating. Sure, sell your rights to the worst company in the whole country so I cannot watch 'legally' but blocking YouTube daily highlights WHY?!

And yes I know a VPN and use them now and then but 99% of people won't.

Eleven Sports no longer available on Pluto app, beyond DirecTV harder to find than hen’s teeth.
FTF took over Eleven, but not available via streaming on Eleven’s garbage website or FTF’s platform.

My workaround is using a VPN over my iPhone to subscribe, then either cast behind VPN to TV or via computer.

Such a cluster stumble. God forbid you take my money.

Fubo has it on an add-on package as well.

I thinks that's the only streaming service with the pay version (as opposed to the free FTF). Hard to tell as only FTF has a website, not Eleven.

I tried switching the country of the VPN to several different ones, but so far nothing works. I can't even get to the screen to buy the game

Any tips? Are either of you experiencing this issue?

I have nord vpn which cost me money for the version i have. Your version of nord may be one that does not work with the khl app, however i cant remember if they have a free version or not. If you are using the same paid version i am try closing the khl app, logging into nord vpn selecting the country of georgia then turn on the khl app back on. If that fails dl the fake gps app and try selecting georgia as your location and use that countrys servers in the nord app.

When i watch a game i go to a game with a score, click the video link then hit the watch button. If i didnt already have an account i believe the watch button will be 2 options purchase game, purchase season pass.

I had the Nord app (I also paid for mine) for Windows on my PC and had it running in the background through the Nord app, but apparently it wasn't communicating with any of my browsers properly and the video player wouldn't load no matter which country I used. It was working on my phone though. So ultimately I found out I had to install the Nord add-on to Firefox on my PC, could log in to my Nord account there and that solved everything, allowing full access to the KHL's website. Hopefully this saves someone else the headache I got from trying to figure it out!

Watched Kunlun get the upset tonight without any issues and learned the Russian word for dragons since the announcer kept saying it so often I looked it up

Meanwhile, my extended family in Portugal can access any Soccer/Basketball/Hockey league across Europe and Asia for one flat, inexpensive yearly fee.

I get that there is Illegal Streaming, but I want to watch it at a better quality than what looks like 240p and annoying porn-ads every five minutes.

Ya its certainly crazy that these smaller leagues dont take some of the same moves as the NHL in terms of growing the game. Nhl has ways to view the game in different countries or at least center ice tv allows watching games in countries that dont have nhl agreements.

Likely the expenses of having to set up such an arrangement outweigh the possible revenues. Hockey is a niche market in the world. Non-NHL hockey is even more of a niche market.

All the problem is with the concept of worldwide intellectual property rights. Namely, a league sells EXCLUSIVE broadcasting & streaming rights to a broadcaster in a certain territory (country). Hence, geoblocking.

The KHL´s official representative outside Russia, Belarus & Kazakhstan is Lagardère Sports, the deal runs from 2017/2018 until 2020/2021. I have not noticed an extension. So, we will see what will happen with geoblocking next summer. The league might re-consider it.

There has always been a market for soccer in North America. There have been fairly good TV ratings dating back to the 90s. The World Cup has always had good viewership, even when Canada and America aren't playing.

Three years ago, Premier League ratings in North America were second highest of all time. I don't know anyone who said there wasn't a market for it. Whoever did either didn't know what they were talking about or didn't exist.

Hockey is a niche sport. European hockey is even more niche. We are in 2020, where there are multiple fishing channels. If there was money to be made from broadcasting European hockey in North America, it would have happened by now.
