This kid is seriously one of the best goalie prospects out there. His progression since being drafted has been amazing.

He turned heads at Islander training camp this year. That's when the organization realized they might have a big time player on their hands. He's been a standout in the AHL this year and has looked fantastic in his two NHL appearances.

With Roloson traded and DiPietro on the shelf, he will probably be getting some serious minutes in the next couple of weeks.

He has really come out of nowhere to become a legitimate top goalie prospect.

When Patrick Roy said that he was the best goalie in the CHL, I was absolutely shocked..then, I saw those last two games. Wow, is all I kind say. He reminds me so much of Carey Price (style-wise and look), it's insane.

Wasn't he suppose to be the next big goalie from Quebec, then fell off ?

    **** Olivier Roy.

I dont know if he ever fell off but this kid is awesome. It finally feels good to see the Isles prospects come to life. Isles 2008 draft was good one. Keep it coming with Petrov next season!

Yep, fell to the 5th round.

This kid has looked like a stud though. Really hope he keeps it up.

Another great game for this kid. Made 48 saves against the Nucks but lost in the shootout.

    Looking like the real deal.

had a up and down draft year wich explained him slipping in the ranking in 2008. big time talent and was amazing for victoriaville in last year playoff.

btw, he was a defensemen until he was 11 years old so pretty amazing developpement in 9 years

Should still be sent back to the AHL once DiPi is back. Let Lawson be the backup (Read: Starter) to DP and Poulin tear the AHL a new ******* this season.

    He is 'meh' imo.

Reimer is a much better prospect.

Reimer is a much better prospect?

Poulin put up better numbers than Reimer in the AHL and they have put up almost identical numbers in the NHL.

I don't see how he is a 'much better prospect'.

not just in the playoffs, he was awesome all year long

I thought he was the best goalie in the QMJHL last season

like most, I didn't see him coming in his draft year but now I'm really excited about his talent

  14. Yeah that was a pretty ridiculous statement.

Reimer may have had the better junior career, but he doesn't have the skillset of Poulin.

He had one hell of a game tonight. Robbed the Canucks several times.

Lol this is gonna turn into "my teams goalie" is better. Poulin has the skill set to be a very good tender in the nhl for a long time. His reflexes are quick, sound positionally & he's a big kid with long limbs. Isles got a possible gem on their hands with him. I don't see dp being able to hold the crease just bc he's got the ridiculous contract too long with poulin knocking on the door.
As for reimer or whomever else...go start your own thread bc honestly, the people who came here to talk about poulin's very nice start couldn't care less about your young netminder. Not being rude, just a fact. People on hf feel the need to constantly hijack threads & make it about "player b" when everyone else is talking about player a.

Got to watch this kid play live tonight, and man was he good. As a Rangers fan, I am not looking forward to seeing this kid across from Lundqvist in the years to come.

This has nothing to do with stats. Why are you guys' basing it off of stats. This has to do with talent and I really don't see him becoming a all-star goaler. Poulin lacks lateral movement and speed which are important parts to goaltending. He does have very good positioning which is the reason why he was drafted and has pretty good reflexes. As for Reimer he might not have that good of positioning, but he doesn't have those crucial weaknesses that Poulin has. He's still going to be pretty good, maybe Nabokov; 1B/1C good, but nothing more.

I'm not a Maple Leafs fan and I'm "hijacking" (as you call it) this thread before he becomes the next overrated player that HF posters do.

Example: Like the poster said above that he's a beast after two games, lol.

Really? First off I don't see what is wrong with using stats too compare two goalies.

Second, Poulin's lateral movement has looked lightning quick in the games I have seen of him.

His only problem right now is his rebound control.

Well hijack was the easiest term I thought of bc a lot of times on here people come in & start talking about the player they wanna reference. That's cool, but do it in a thread for them, ya know? He actually has been beast-like in the 3 games he's played. 48 saves against the nhls top team isn't something to shrug off...but yes, its incredibly early too.

Disagree completely about lateral movement. Don't worry, he can improve, but so far it's at the low AHL/high ECHL level.

Rebound control is a problem for all young goalers, so he will improve on that too.

Trust me, if there is something I know about hockey it is goaler talent.

  24. I've watched the Isles vs. Oilers game when he played for Lawson, his strength was puck handling and lateral movement, not his weakness.

Cmon S E P H, Poulin is the goods. I know HF makes a big deal about alot of players but this kid is for real. The best part is that he is way more mature than anyone would have thought. On top of all that he is playing on a very young Islander team and keeping them in games. Take a look at the Colorado and Vancouver games and let me know.
