He's going to need to play the elite defense he played in 134 innings this year instead of the merely above average defense the rest of his career to be a viable starter or something other than a defensive replacement.

No not only because of this, but the amount of off season moves they have made. Minor or not.

The only real money they added to the payroll the next two seasons were Familia and Ramos at mid-level prices. Cano's only money added was in his last three likely bad years. As usual we're shopping at Woolworth's after a couple of safe mid-tier signings and just trading every single prospect that was here before BVW.

brought in ramos and a bunch of defense first outfielders in broxton, davis and blanco. it's pretty clear that the mets have been a bad defensive team the last few years and addressing that isn't the worst idea in the world.
