I've posted this link upon request. It's the 2004 draft from the keeper league that I'm in. All 32 teams (Quebec & Winnipeg expansion) are run by different people... who do you think did the best drafting?

Anyone in particular that you think went much higher or lower than they should have gone / will go in the NHL?

Also, some note worthy players that may have opted out of the 2003 draft (ie: Al Montoya) were drafted last year in our keeper league, if you're wondering why he/they are not on the draft list.

*Rounds 5-8 are done by the sim*

Calgary lost a majority of their picks as compensation when they signed Derrick Morris as an a restricted free agent a few seasons back.

Yea, Minny does alright for himself... he's patient. He drafted goalies with all of his picks!?

I'm surprised to see Valabik last until several picks deep into the second round.

Interesting draft though.

Upon looking deeper, I am shocked, and pleasantly surprised, to see someone pick up Clayton Stoner in the third round.

I can't imagine that happening in the NHL draft however.

Why not? I could see him going easily in the second or third.

It takes a good deal of scouting to draft well in the mock drafts. No one in this league had even heard of Brent Burns last year... he was drafted by the sim in the 6th or 7th round.

We also do this draft far before the final CSB's (which i heard were released today) and monthes before the NHL does their draft, so it always comes out a lot different.

Wow, Liam Reddox 31st overall. Even if the GM had to have him, I think this pick could have waited at least until the 2nd or 3rd round.

Yep, you'll find this happens a lot in a sim league. Gm's may know a player personally, or maybe the player plays in his/her home town, so rather than draft the best skill available, they waste a good pick on a fringe prospect.

That's why I was able to draft Pineault & Zajac where I did... I think it's fair to say that his happens in the NHL as well, when a team falls in love with a prospect.

I thinks Boston did quite well with their first 4 picks, ofcourse having 2 top 5 picks didn't hurt their cause. But still....

1. Alexander Ovechkin
5. Rotislav Olezs
21. Jakub Sindel
44. Adam Berti

that's a pretty solid day at the draft table :amazed:

- Ramholt
- Niinimaki
- Hudler
- Higgins
- Ryder
- Kostitsyn
- Pleckanen
- Leopold
- Phaneuf
- Daley
- Coburn
- Belle
