The reason is pretty clear to stop teams from loading up on players they would be unlikely to have. They don't want guys signing for short periods of time, one to load up, and two to stop teams from exploiting it to burn an ELC year getting these guys to their 2nd NHL deal quicker.

My gosh, wild weren't going to exploit anything. College free agents & drafted prospect negotiate a contract where a year is burm right away without playing a single game . Kaprizov was drafted by wild.

You need a better argument. Hit the books, come back when you find one. This exact scenario is allowed every single year, and results in both of the things you cited.
It only happens when certain things happen. How often is the KHL season canceled with CSKA's season-ending at the point prior to the playoffs beginning? It happens, but I don't think it's happened in 5 years.

I'm not a fan of the idea that Daly and Bettman get to decide what is "likely or unlikely", when in the last 2-3 years we've seen a) an expansion team make it to the SCF, and b) the best regular season in the last 20 years get swept in the first round.

It's not perfect in execution, but they don't want teams to exploit signing post-20 drafted prospects who can easily burn a contract year due to the late playing dates and the fact the euro leagues are cancelled.
What you just described is exactly what a handful of players/teams do every single season. Why should it change for this season?

College season ends in the first week of April if you reach the Frozen four. The season for CSKA Moscow rarely ends before mid-April.

That doesn’t change my statement for CHL players. The CHL playoffs goes into the NHL playoffs. A CHL player being aloud to play is just as unprecedented

No, I think they are using it as a tool to entice him to come play. So, yes, they want to offer him a quick burn to get him to his 2nd deal quicker.

& it's not illegal. Wild or no team wants a player to get fo that 2nd contract fast but every team do it to get even a college free agent

NCAA players finish their season and sign with their NHL teams every single season. Your argument is dead.

Which is a tool that is available to every other team in every other season. We aren't special in this regard.

The thing is the season likely ends for the Wild under what was most likely to happen before Kaprizov can sign to burn a year. In a normal year, Wild need to make the playoffs (which while they had a chance, the odds are against that happening) and two, they need CSKA to be eliminated early enough they could get him in the playoffs. The odds of both of those happening are quite small.

The odds were against wild making playoff according to you. Wild were ine of the best team in the 2nd half, but go on

You are laughable at this point . To say wild only had a small chance at making the playoffs is straight funny

And the odds of it breaking in a way you could of done it with Kaprizov this year quite small. Given the odds of Minnesota making the playoffs combined with the odds of CSKA being out in-time to do it.

Sorry, I’m really confused, are you upset that this rule exists at all, or are you upset for a different reason? Nothing you’ve said has had any substance to it. The idea that it should suddenly be put on hold because of things that “don’t usually happen” or situations that “aren’t likely” is insane. If this were a normal year, and CSKA got bounced in the first round, and the Wild made it to round 2, would you disallow him signing because “usually the Wild don’t make it to round 2 and usually CSKA makes it further”?

All of your points about using it to entice them to sign, burning a year, getting an extra boost, these are all still happening every other year, no different than it would be with Kaprizov. You’re going to need a stronger argument if you want anyone to take you seriously.

You do understand that this isn't a Kaprizov, CSKA, Minnesota Wild specific rule correct? Why are you still clinging to this awful theory?

Well, I'm talking specifically about Kaprizov. Not about the value in the rule in totality. Obviously there are issues, but there are a ton with the entire NHL season right now. We are seeing a 24 team playoffs which is also unprecedented.

What were the odds of wild making the playoffs according to you? Huh because wild had games in hand on numerous teams

Except odds would make it insanely unlikely for it to happen. Wild were fighting for a playoff spot and CSKA were favored to win the KHL.

No, it would be what would happen. The difference with Kaprivoz is the odds of this happening are pretty much caused by a season being indefinitely delayed.

How do you feel like it makes any sense to talk specifically about Kaprizov only? Should Kaprizov be separated from the other people this rule impacts? Should those guys be allowed to sign and play, just not Kaprizov?

None of this matters. Quite literally it doesn’t matter what the odds are. That’s not within the scope of the rule to say, “well the odds aren’t great, so nah we won’t let it happen”

Odds of the Leafs finally getting past the first round this year aren’t great based on recent history, might as well shut them down for the season, right?

You're overstating how small our odds for making the playoffs were. We were something like .006 back of the #8 team in points percentage.

You're also handing way too much power over to the commissioner's office to decide how to enforce (or create) rules based on what they think was probably going to happen.

Around 50%, maybe slightly less.
Dude you are just a delusional leafs fan.. for a leafs fan to put wild down is funny. Again, wild was one of the best team in hockey 2nd half with easy schedule. Please stop talking nonsense because you sound ignorant

Well, it sort of matters when it comes to adding players for a playoff run due to seasons canceled and the season indefinitely being put on hold. We just expanded to a 24 team playoff. There was no perfect way to handle what would and wouldn't be allowed given the season has been extended into July, if they can figure it out.
