If were moving rakell I assume well look to bruins, panthers, stars, oilers, avs islanders etc...
leafs are like the last team that needs to add offensive players.

Seems like a relatively lateral move tbh. Moving a forward plus for a forward isnt something Leaf fans will be thrilled at.

I don't see any plus for ANA in trading Rakell for a collection of lesser pieces.

That’s a pretty poor return for Rakell given how valuable his contract is. Easy pass from Anaheim.

The plus in this trade would be either Sandin/Liljegren, which the Leafs should avoid at all costs

A Kapanen and Rakell deal could work as long as Toronto or Anaheim is subbed out of the trade and the returns for either team are completely different in premise, quality and quantity.

the difference between Kap and Rakell is no where near Lilj. Considering age, CURRENT production and salary I am not sure if there is much more than a 4th rd pick in value difference.

but why, outside party? why when the leafs desperately need defense are they trading one of their legit high end defensive prospects who's just entering the show just to upgrade an area of strength?

not a good argument, some of the top scorers are on teams with less GF than Tor.
Also why would Toronto add assets to make a trade that looks lateral at the moment.
Manson is where its at IMO
We have Kap/Johnsson/Kerfoot/2012 1st/Lilj/Sandin*/Robertson* to get the deal done.

Kapanen isn’t an elite talent. His production would most likely drop going to the current Ducks and Rakell could see a massive improvement moving to Toronto. Comparing production between teams when one team has nearly 60 more GF. Idiotic

I will concede that if you concede that Kap being younger, cheaper, and have middle 6 production makes him as valuable as Rakell. People are not paying for 30+goal Rakell, they are buying current Rakell
