I don't think so. As Johnston said, trading Marleau just made it easier to finish signing the players.Wonder if this means legitimate progress has been made with Marner.
I believe that was Dubas trying to exert some pressure on Marner, it's a shame it didn't work so we could have all these guys signed. The whole we need to wait on Marner stuff never did make sense. With the 10% overage we can still match any Marner offer sheet under like 12 million which is stupid high anyway, and nobody avoids a deal on purpose in July or August that would make their team better because you think you can squeeze the other team who is in trouble with the cap. There are 29 other teams, doing that just ends up making you not get a deal that you thought make you better.

It creates the perception that Marner is preventing management from filling out the rest of the team, and preventing his teammates from getting paid. Meeting with Panarin would be like dropping a bomb given Toronto media, this tactic was a lot more subtle. How does intentionally holding up finalizing 2 other deals put pressure on Marner? If anything it makes it look like everything else waits on Marner making it look like pressure is on Dubas.
Putting pressure on Marner would be having an in person meeting with Panarin.
