His life appears to be collapsing and very publicly. Wouldn't wish that on anyone. I know it can be hard to feel sympathy for a pro athlete with a big salary who's done plenty of overtly douchey things throughout his career. People like this are often dealing with serious issues. I hope he gets help quickly and manages to make things right for his family

From the article:

That statement is just weird all the way around. Requiring 24/7 child care implies his wife isn't involved in its care at all and also wtf sort of 'educational expenses' can a 6 month old have?
Doesn't sound like they are questioning her parenting skills, just bringing up what Kane claims which is weird to say the least unless to child has medical needs that require 24/7 care

Its true and I don't see why anyone would want to cheer on problems for someone. Not a good look on anyone involved in this story or most commenting on it imo.

I bet most of you that clown on him don’t have an issue with much richer people doing much worse.

Wonder why?...
Why are you defending him here. Seems like someone as affluent as you would not condone this type of fiscal irresponsibility unless you had a reason to do so.

It’s not as much defending him as it is calling out institutions and those defending them. As for Kane’s financial irresponsibility’s, since they don’t have a direct impact on my life I don’t bat an eyelash. I would say the same if this were Chris Pronger or David Perron.

A creditor complaining about a guy gaming the system is hilariously hypocritical. Zions wants to change Kane’s bankruptcy from personal to business. Think about that for a second.

Yeah, it is hard, especially during Covid times when it's even more difficult. None of us should feel bad for the guy.

Couldn't have less sympathy for the guy. Us average joes who live paycheck to paycheck find a way to be financially responsible. There are zero reasons why a multi-millionaire pro athlete can't.
Average Joe’s also don’t get the credit line offers guys like Kane do (or at least used to).

It was far more serious than his supporters say. He could have been deported from the US over it. Failure to pay casino markers is considered a form of financial fraud by the state of NV.

Casino Markers in Las Vegas Nevada - What If I Don't Pay It?

As it is, the centennial bank case is not the most serious lawsuit banks have filed against him. A couple others have as well.

Just going by the attorney he hired, the zions bank suit against him has the potential to be far more serious.
Of course it is financial fraud and would be prosecuted as such.

Otherwise any jabroni could walk into a casino and bet big money with the hopes of making ten times that money. Then simply say "I can't pay" when they eventually lose everything.

Centennial bank, zions bank and american express bank were all suing him at the same time as the cosmopolitan.

To the average person, that screams cash flow issues.
Maybe Evander Kane was borrowing from Peter to pay Paul, and it eventually caught up to him.

Nor the amount of swindlers trying to get what they can out of athletes because they know they’re not financially literate.
So we just shouldn't expect pro athletes to be intelligent?

Jesus, celebrity/pro athlete worship is the worst. It's a double edged sword because people lift them up on a pedestal but at the same time hold them to the lowest of standards.

That....that's your defense?

If he can't be responsible with money then don't get the loan! This is basic stuff.
Yet just about every 20-something gets in credit card debt that they don’t pay off until their 30’s.

If I wanted to be a snob, I’d say you shouldn’t be living paycheck to paycheck if you consider yourself financially responsible.

Living paycheck to paycheck has nothing to do with one's financial responsibility. It's about the high cost of living vs modest wages. More people live paycheck to paycheck than you think. Whole families live paycheck to paycheck if they're not really well off.

I didn’t say that. I spoke on financial literacy. Plenty of intelligent people are stupid with money regardless of fame. This stuff is common enough to understand that you can’t pretend like they’re just regular joes with money. It’s significantly more complicated than that and there are a lot of predatory people trying to get every dollar out of athletes.

That’s why people need to take advantage of markets, like the US housing crash in 07/08, and defer gratification so that they can put away ~8/10% of each check.

There are also plenty of people with humble jobs/careers that are very good financially. There are many different types of intelligence, and managing assets is one of them.

Whats funny is his wife probably thought she struck it rich being with an nhl player. Put up with his arrogance and selfishness to live the lavish lifestyle... only to be absolutely broke.

Plenty of funny things watching sharks play this year. Good thing they have a billionaire owner.
