Holloway and Caufield would had been a great combo for sure in MTL like they were at the College level.

Guhle played a year behind Holloway in Alberta minor hockey because DH was a 2001 dob, but Kaiden outpointed Holloway at each level coming up. You guys are putting a lot on a 2 month scoring spree Holloway had in the Big 10 this year. Outside of that, Guhle has a more impressive development path to this point. So, for that matter did Ryan Poehling.

What were the odds that the Rangers would jump to #1 ?

Do you think you have good odds of winning the lottery because people win it every now and then? Just because the Rangers won with 12.5% odds doesn't mean you should force your team to lose because 12.5% is a sure thing.

Do you remember when Carolina jumped to #2 spot and got Svechnikov ? OR How Detroit had been screwed badly in the recent years even if they were finishing rock bottom ? Odds and Covid had played against the Habs with the results we see today. A team who finished 24th last season and won a round of a pre-Stanley Cup tournament. This performance and the luck they had meeting Vancouver so often at the beginning of this shortened season, have blinded the org and the fans about the real value of this team.

Still not how statistics work. If you see Carolina can win the lottery with a 3% chance and think that is a shot worth taking then I have some fantastic news for you, that's exactly our odds of winning the cup!! Oh, does that pretty much guarantee we won't win? Strange how you understand that in one context but not the other...

Yeah, finishing at the bottom of the standings and getting a top pick sure worked for the Oilers. They've been doing it for a decade and are still a mediocre team.

The rebuild is the appropriate approach because the team sucks, not because of lottery winning percentages.

All I am saying is Habs would have had a larger group of excellent prospects to chose from IF they would had picked 8th or 9th, and even a fair chance to get #1 overall.

That is a valid opinion of where our team is. I'm arguing against the "why didn't we intentionally tank the play-ins last year for a glorious 12.5% chance at Laf" nonsense.

It was up to the management to do a better job surrounding their top picks. Not the fault of the picks themselves. Who would not want McDavid and Draisaitl on their team ?

Chicago and Pittsburg built their SC winning teams BECAUSE they put their hands on execellent picks and were smart enough to surround them with a proper supporting casting.

And all I'm saying is no GM in sports history would go out and tell his team to throw a playoff series and have a hope to keep his job or the respect of his players. What exactly do you think they should have done? Play Weise in net?

It's unfortunate for us that we got dragged into that nonsense and then played a Pittsburgh team that wanted nothing to do with being there.

Timmins said there was only one player taken between 8 and 16 that the Habs had rated over Guhle. Not much of a difference.

Sometimes it pays to pick late and have other teams make the mistakes. We'll see how Guhle stacks up against the forwards we could have had, all three look good so far . Caufield looks good.

Having the top pick is better almost all the time, but you get drafts like 2012 where none of the consensus top 4 work out and Toronto and Anaheim look good following up. Same thing for Colorado with Makar.

Habs also picked later every other round.

Not a huge difference but they shouldn’t have been put in that position to begin with. Anyway, it’s done.

Much better gap control, better skating and better puck handling. Always looking to make things happen.

So, in your opinion, he has more potential to bring some offense to the next level ? Or not really.
