Just wondering why he doesn't see an opportunity every time there is a shootout. He is our most gifted offensive player IMO and Randy keeps him on the bench and I am just wondering why this is

His first year he was lights out, he made Tim Thomas look silly one time.
Ever since he seems to be trying to do too much and overhandles the puck.

    Anyone but Phil please.

Yeah, outside a few nice moves early in his career, Kadri has not been very good in the shootout. From what I've seen, our best shootout players on a consistent basis are Bozak, Lupul, and Raymond.

And although Kulemin has gone 0 - 4 or something his last attempts, I still think he'd be a good shootout player with more oppurtunity. He had great #'s earlier in his career.

Kulemin has one move, backhand forehand shoot. Though he's good at it and as long as the goalie isn't expecting it he tends to score.

God I hate the shootout. They really have to get rid of it and the stupid gimmick point that comes with it.

The greatest shootout specialists use one move on a consistent basis. Nielsen, Hendricks, Jussi Jokinen, Christensen, etc.

have YOU SEEN HIM IN THE SHOOTOUT?

    he is the ShootOut GOD
or used to be, before his great season

strangely since he got better, his shootouts have... not improved in the same light
    still he should still shoot

The same Carlyle who never used Grabo that often in the shootout either, right?

He wasn't that great last season, though. No one other than Bozak scored on the SO iirc. I think playing Kadri is still a much better shot than playing Kessel, who has only gotten one or two SO goals as a Leaf.

He needs to simplify things in the shootout. No reason he can't pull off what Radim Vrbata does almost every time.

That SO winner on Brodeur. So nice. I remember being so happy that it was Kadri who pulled that off too.

  13. I wonder if there are any shoot out drills in Carlyle system available. I only see normal routine practice sessions all the time in game day talk on LeafsTV.

Just because it drives me nuts when nobody brings up the actual numbers (note: these are damn small sample sizes)... going back to 2010-11:

    JVR - 2 for 4 (50%)
    Bozak - 8 for 13 (61.5%)
    Raymond - 6 for 21 (28.6%)
    Kessel - 2 for 17 (11.8%)
    Lupul - 2 for 6 (33%)
    Franson - 0 for 1
    Phaneuf - 0 for 1
    Kulemin - 0 for 7
    Kadri - 3 for 12 (25%)

Kulemin and Kadri both had some success 3-4 years ago, but have been largely stymied ever since.

Presumably players are picked through fooling around at practice, so it's kind of silly to speculate (though I think it's fair at this point to say Kessel should stop doing shootouts and Bozak must continue doing so)

The year before he was really good at shoot outs but last year he was a blunder on shoot outs.

I think we should give him some chances this year.

i kind of thought along the lines of what the stats actually were.

bozak, jvr, lupul, should shoot for sure. i didn't realize raymond was that good, but i would have put kadri there. i'm surprised rc puts kessel, (who always does a wrist shot) and doesn't instead pace:

    bozak, lupul, raymond, jvr, kadri.

i remember kuli being a sniper but didn't realize his record was that bad.

He was bad at them last season so maybe that's why

I would go with Bozak Kadri JVR... anyone but Kessel really. At this point i'd even put Orr or Mclaren ahead of Kessel because at least they could surprise a goalie

At least we'll never have to see MacArthur in a shootout again.

Anyone have any numbers on Clarkson?

I wouldn't mind him getting some looks in the SO. Not sure why Kessel's goal scoring abilities don't translate into the SO but it doesn't. When you have other offensive weapons in your line up, you don't need to put Kessel in the SO just because he's Kessel.

Bozak is easily the most reliable one on one shot on the team. He's money in SOs and breakaways. The other two shooters could be toss ups on any given night depending on which offensive players are having better nights than others.

Lupul, Kadri, JVR and Raymond are all combinations to slot into the 2 and 3 shooting spots.

For the sake of reference, here's 2008-09 to 2009-10...
    Kulemin - 6 for 13
    Kessel - 4 for 15
    Bozak - 0 for 1
    Lupul - 1 for 2
    Raymond - 1 for 5
