    named The Toronto Maple Leafs.

I'm not here to rip on him.

I think he's a good player. I always liked him.

I would like to hear from both sides.

    Thanks

There are already Nylander and Kadri threads to discuss Faulk in.

He's not available for the price the Leafs would want to pay at this point. Carolina is competitive right now; trading away a quality defenseman for a bottom-6 forward and futures doesn't make sense. Check back closer to the deadline.

Faulk is having a strong bounceback season, but in an unexpected way. His shooting percentage hasn't rebounded to his post-breakout norms 11 games in. It's been his defense that has made him look every bit of the top-pairing defender he was in the past. I don't know if it's having a quality, veteran defensive partner beside him (de Haan) or better conditioning, but he's playing like the Olympic version right now. Carolina fans even entertaining trading Pesce is a testament to that.

I think his point is there is nothing to discuss around any other players that Toronto fans have been throwing out there.

Leafs untouchables for Faulk are Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Kadri, Nylander, Rielly, Andersen.

There is literally no other player or prospect on the Leafs that the Canes would be interested in trading for.

You can make an offer based on picks and prospects but that’s not what the Canes are looking for either.

Does Faulk for Marleau + 2nd & 3rd make sense? Is it fair to both teams?

If you ever want to improve the Leafs our untouchable list has to be shorter and we need to be willing to trade draft picks.

No one player ever is untouchable. A great deal can pry away anyone.

All those leaf players are untouchable when it comes to Faulk though. They may not all be untouchable in other trades where the value is better but in this scenario not a chance the Canes would return those kind of players for Faulk

Then we need to put a moratorium on Toronto-Carolina discussions going forward. There is a clear disconnect between the 2 bases on what the value of each will get from anyone actually available, and just agree to disagree going forward.

I'm good with that. Not sure why Faulk pops up so much with the Leafs to begin with. He's definitely not the type of player the Leafs need. Toronto needs defensive d men not another offensive player on the back end.

You might want to ask Dubas why he called about Faulk over the summer, then. But I guess what would Toronto's GM know about what his team needs.

Maybe he would have brought him in if another trade happened like moving Gardiner. We don't know what Dubas was up to but as of right now it wouldn't make sense. Just because he inquired about Faulk doesn't mean his value would be Kadri or Nylander

Highly doubt we would trade poehling or Suzuki, but if they were open the price would be more than Suzuki for Faulk.

Yeah, that is my thought as well. Your team just shouldn't be trading what we want for Faulk because then you are just creating one hole to fill another.

Wow... good for him. I had him pegged as a declining asset.

I mean how much defense is he being asked to play when he is starting 65% of his zone starts at even strength in the offensive zone....

he is the most sheltered defender zone wise on Carolina and the Leafs couldn't give him close to that level of sheltering in toronto.

You have a very poor understanding of zone starts. Most importantly, Faulk's 65% ZSR does NOT mean that he starts 65% of his faceoffs in the offensive zone. ZSR is a ratio of offensive zone to defensive zone faceoffs and does not account for neutral zone faceoffs. The Canes have more NZ faceoffs than either OZ or DZ. I don't have the exact number but Faulk likely start ~35% of his shifts in the offensive zone.

You are correct that the Leafs couldn't give Faulk 65% ZSR anyway. Because the Leafs have a team average of 47% ZSR which is #28 in the league (1230 OZ vs 1382 DZ). The Hurricanes have a team average ZSR of 57% (1379 OZ vs 1056 DZ) which is #1 in the league. I don't want to explain all the math to you, but suffice it to say that if your team is starting far more in the offensive zone then each individual player will, in general, also start far more in the offensive zone.

Basically your points are bad and your comparison is useless.

Or your just assuming a lack of knowledge. Obviously they dont include neutral zone starts as they wouldn't have a significant effect either way. When your talking zone start % it is usually assumed your not talking about neutral zone starts...

So he starts 35-40% in the offensive zone, 40% in the neutral and like 20% in the defensive? Still very sheltered lol..

So why does Faulk have the highest offensive zone start percentage of any Carolina defender in the top 6?

Funny that you think my points are bad when you didnt even read what I said lol.. nice try though.
