Jussi Jokinen, 35 (NHL career totals, 208+387) having impressive season so far.

Switzerland&Finland combined (Kloten&Kärpät)
In 14 games: 3 goals, 21 assists, 24 points (1.71 ppg) +13
- 7 games for Kloten, 12 points, 7 games for Kärpät, 12 points

I know he had couple of bad ones (seasons) in a row,
but it was mostly do to injuries, now he is 100% healthy,
sucks that none of the NHL teams showed interest after abysmal last season,
oh well, good for Kärpät. (thou he was quite good for Canucks).

i mean he can be healthy all he wants, he's a 35 year old role player and doesn't do anything incredibly well

there's lots of options who can do all that while being closer to 25 years old

He was actually surprisingly good down the stretch for the Canucks last year. He probably could do a better job than a couple guys in a lot of teams' bottom 6, but between being stuck with bigger contracts and wanting to give younger players a shot, teams just weren't interested

At 35, without being a top-level player, he is pretty old for NHL. Better to just sign up younger guys with a future to a smaller contract, than rely on old vets that demand a higher price (while only having a few years left in their careers).

At the end of the day, Jokinen was no longer good enough to make an impact on a NHL-level team.

jussi ha always been great at resurrecting his career from the point of absolute no return, but the problem is he has allowed his career to get to that point several times. it's great he's doing well in europe, but that's where he belongs at this stage of his career.

I think you are pumping his tires for all the wrong reasons and putting too much emphases on assists. Also, have you seen him play at all or are you basing the thread purely on stats?

Would have been cool to see him hit 1000 games. He might still give the NHL a go after summer but he's going to have to work insanely hard.

I like the potato farmer Juicy J and I'm glad to see him doing well in Europe. His skill-set is very suited for a European style league, so it makes sense to me that he's succeeding in Europe at this age.

I don't see him ever making a meaningful comeback to the NHL.

Ehm, err.

So for clarity, in Switzerland he was playing in the 2nd division.

The typical "import" in the NLB (who will generally dominate) are players that topped out at ECHL 1st liners or AHL bottom 6. The typical local player is a guy who would have topped as an ECHL grinder at best.

with the canucks late last year, he could still play and compensated well for his lack of speed but i would not have expected those stats in europe.

i think there is a lot of fan pressure on teams these days to jettison older guys and play the kids. guys like jokinen who don't have marquee value or a sentimental attachment for fans to offset that pressure have to play a lot better than the kid behind them to hang on.

Playing well in Europe does not mean you are an NHL level player.

Florida or Jets could pick up him to mentor Barkov or Laine
