I'm curious as to why stats are no longer available on the Finnish hockey association's website. Is it a technical issue or a deliberate decision? I had assumed it was the former but it's been this way for a while now.

It's a technical issue. Finnish hockey association are trying to set up a new service for scores and stats but that haven't gone as planned.

The best I've been able to find so far is the following list posted on Leijonat for A-juniors top scorers on Oct 3rd:

Nuorten SM-liigan pistekärki:
Sami Anttila Kärpät 6 + 7 = 13
Niklas Näppi Lukko 6 + 5 = 11
Sebastian Aho Kärpät 3 + 8 = 11
Antti Kalapudas Kärpät 7 + 3 = 10
Oskari Lehtinen Ässät 7 + 3 = 10
Henri Keskilohko Ässät 5 + 5 = 10
Teemu Pulkkinen Blues 5 + 5 = 10
Joel Janatuinen Blues 4 + 6 = 10
Iikka Kangasniemi Blues 3 + 7 = 10
Kasperi Ojantakanen Jokerit 3 + 7 = 10
Patrik Virta HPK 5 + 4 = 9
Janne Kettunen SaiPa 4 + 5 = 9
Ismo Nikkinen HPK 4 + 5 = 9
Hannes Björninen Pelicans 3 + 6 = 9
Samuel Salonen Sport 3 + 6 = 9
Teemu Karjalainen HPK 2 + 7 = 9
Juho Lammikko Ässät 2 + 7 = 9
Jesse Huhtala Lukko 4 + 4 = 8
Robert Varga Sport 4 + 4 = 8
Teemu Turunen Jokerit 2 + 6 = 8
Jesperi Viikilä Pelicans 2 + 6 = 8
Arttu Likola JYP 1 + 7 = 8

Sebastian Aho seems to be doing pretty well for a 97-born kid, although he seems to be on a very strong team.

Stats on the main Liiga website are "iffy" also... I've looked for current stats on a couple of players, including Petteri Lindbohm, and they are nowhere to be found on the site. You can get stats on EliteProspects.com, but they're not as current as they should be, and do not include special-teams goals (PP, SH) or game-winners.

The game reports on the Liiga site are incomplete, and impossible to reconstruct a full set of stats from because they do not include shots on goal or plus-minus.

The Finnish Ice Hockey Federation has gone from having one of the best and most reliable stats packages in the game, to having one of the worst. Only Switzerland, among the major hockey-playing nations, has a more pitiful stats package available for public viewing.

Clarification, Liiga operates independently from the Finnish hockey federation. It's just a coincidence both had to change their stats operating systems this year and that both effed up/have huge issues with it.

Well not really a coincidence I believe. Both used to use the same system, but the company providing the service had problems of some sort and things had to be changed. Now both Liiga and Federations are trying to build their own systems. Mind you, it's actually not that easy to have a system that works great. That isn't a valid reason for the situation though; they shouldn't have underestimated the task.

I guess I just don't understand what is so hard about accumulating and reporting the statistical data.

The teams have to be submitting official scoresheets to someone at the league office, right? What is so difficult about compiling that data -- even if it's just on Excel spreadsheets -- and then posting the data somewhere on the 'Net?

There are people in the world -- and I'm one of them -- who would gladly do that as a full-time job, and would not want an exorbitant salary to do so. Hell, give me a bedroom and a private bathroom at the Tampere or Pori jahalli, pay me enough to keep some food on my table and put a few bucks aside for savings, and give me a shot at dating one of the team's "cheer-up squad," and I'll be there on the next plane.

I totally understand that the leagues, or the Finnish Ice Hockey Federation, or both, want to have this data presented in the most attractive and "cutting-edge" way possible. But it's very disappointing to keep getting this utter silence from an organization that used to be so good about making a very extensive stats package available.

Something is better than nothing.

This is enormously frustrating for those of us -- in Finland, and elsewhere -- who are interested in keeping track of how current prospects are doing, and interested in how the prospects available for this year's draft are doing.

The whole Liiga website has been an embarresment for years. It really hurts the league's prestige in my mind. Finhockey's stats were quite good until this season.

I hope the new GM of the league will do something about it but I'm not expecting much.

Above is a list of stats among some pre-draft junior A players. They include all(I think) games up to and including those played on December 1st, 2013. A couple of things to note:

1)This table is unofficial. I did this by going through each game sheet so there could be a couple of errors, but they should be more or less accurate. I may have slightly undercounted the number of games played in some cases because the game sheets available generally did not include full rosters for the first 1-3 games. In that case, I counted the player in question as having played that game only if the player showed up on the game sheet(i.e. they registered a point, a penalty or were on the ice for a goal scored for or against).

2)This isn't an complete list of junior A players who are scoring well. I selected names to search exhaustively based on players who had produced excellent statistical seasons in the past, or who had played on Finland's Under 17 team last year. In fact, if I hadn't seen Roope Hintz's name appear so much while tallying stats for other players, I never would have known go through his stats. Much to my surprise, he's on pace to produce the best draft minus 1 season in junior A since Granlund (at least from a stats point of view). The other interesting thing about Hintz is that he is so consistent. There are astonishingly few games in which he plays but doesn't register at least a single point.

Question: These are Nuorten-SM Liiga (junior league) game sheets you're talking about, right? Where did you find those online?

Here is the link to the various game sheets for, among others, Nuorten-Sm-Liiga, B-Nuorten, and C-Nuorten (which seems to be split in two now due to some play-in system):

SJL Tilastot

Use the left drop down menu to select which league you want to look at, then select an option from the rightmost drop down menu(there often only one option here). Then when the new page has loaded, click "Otteluohjelma" for all the game sheets. Clicking on "Sarjataulukko" gives the standings. Some of the game sheets do not have rosters on them, especially for the B and C levels, so in those cases, it's impossible to know whether or not a given player played if they didn't score a point or receive a penalty. I've done some more tabulation of stats for selected players that prospect-watchers might want to follow for the B and C levels. The ones I've done so far (and will put up later this week) are:

B juniors:
Urho Vaakanainen
Olli Juolevi
Janne Kuokkanen
Otto Somppi
Aapeli Rasanen
Otto Makinen
Markus Nurmi

C Juniors:
Eeli Tolvanen
Oliver Kinnunen
Joel Kerkkanen
Kristian Vesalainen
Sami Moilanen
Olli Valtola

Same for some of the better 1998-born players playing in B juniors, plus Urho Vaakanaianen. Because the game sheets are less complete for B-juniors, I've included two possible numbers of games played and two possible scoring rates.

There are three or four 1999-born forwards that have played games in B-juniors so far: Kristian Vesalainen, Sami Moilanen, Eeli Tolvanen and I think Joel Kerkkanen may have played one game. Vesalainen and Moilanen have each recorded a couple of points, but I didn't see the point in going through the sheets for them, as they've played the majority of their games in C-juniors.

Finally here are some 1999-born players that have scored well in the second round of the C-juniors. These stats probably don't mean much because even after the weakest teams were eliminated, the gulf in skill level between some teams is massive. Eeli Tolvanen, for example, recorded 6 or 7 goals in one game.
