Look at Plekanec in Toronto as a prime example, that guy has been done for 2-3 years and will still get plenty of ice time here if he gets resigned, no one else in the league will want him because what he is now can easily be replaced with a league minimum contract. In Montreal we can't allow the young players to be put in situations to grow because we might lose some games but we will still lose with the Plekanecs and Froese and Alzners and Shaws on this team, it makes no sense.

    Why say 'young players'? lol

Scrubs like Benn shouldn't be considered locks next year just because they were somehow protected-calibre last summer...

Blame your inaptitude on the young players. Meanwhile the Benns, LOLzners, Schlemkos, Paciorettys have been doing an awesome job.
Same school as Therrien...the sooner he gets out the better

Old school pecking order. It's easier to push kids around, I imagine.

Bergevin actually did a great job dumping Gorges contract and getting a 2nd in return. Probably one of the best moves of his six-year tenure...which says a lot.

But once again, he got saved by Gorges not waiving for Toronto.. else we would have ended up with... Franson

A good message to send to young players would've been having the balls to scratch Alzner, give Pacioretty less minutes when he was playing awful and to not play plugs like Froese/Logan Shaw who literally add nothing.

Dumping 4 years of Gorges for one year of Franson would've still been a good trade to get rid of Gorges' contract.

Franson was also traded in a deal that year with Santorelli to get a first and Leipsic.

Julien should’ve said this a long time ago if he wanted to get a reaction out of his players. What’s his angle saying it with 2 games left? Is a guy like Alzner going to start playing with some fire with a couple of games to go excusing his putrid play the rest of the season?

The problem is that the Habs still hire dinosaurs to coach. Jacques Martin, Michel Therrien, Clode Julien. Most successful teams are bringing in younger coaches (not all).
Most teams now play an up tempo puck moving game while the Habs are still playing boring trap hockey.
I understand that they need to play conservatively with that porous D but now we better understand why our leading scorers barely bit the 50 point mark.

It’s gets no better in Laval where they are ranked 29th of 30.

Not a whole lot to look forward to as a Habs fan.

My hope is he gets fired this summer still and 2020-2021 opens with Lafreniere - Hughes - Svechnikov as the top line.

Spot on, I’d love to see a coach who rewards the guys who come to play, and benches the ones who dont regardless of being a vet or a rookie.

It's the matter of these ball bags enforcers/power forwards, geez all the power forwards are in every single lines on our roster! Come on get some snipers/play makers but maybe have one power forward/enforcer. They mostly get penalties minutes instead of scoring! That don't help our team at all just complete garbage for a professional hockey league. Nothing changes until Bergevin is gone all those round 2 drafts are going towards enforcers only, soon we'll have a enforcer goalie if that exist. Posh!!!

It's sad that Alzer kept getting dressed only because no coach wants to end a 600+ ironman streak.

Schlemko, Benn, and Alzner are all in the Bergevin mould when he was a player, journeymen D who are a dime a dozen but he collects them like it's his duty to give back for the help he got to stay in the league as long as he did

Would probably help if they weren't trying to force him at center.

Except most of the players on this team aren't clueless morons. They can see how the team is constructed. I wonder if this attitude from management and coaching coupled with the brilliant motivation statement from their fearless leader, the Village Idiot, didn't cause a let down.
The Village Idiot: The answer is in the room.
The Players: The room. Really? Which room?

If in Canadian Western slang maybe means most definitely then you my man are maybe right. But If it means there what it means here in the East then that previous sentence won't make sense.

After the treatment he got from The Idiot I doubt Gorges doesn't tell MB to go eff himself.

I personally thought at the beginning of the season that Alzner would be an improved version of Emelin. It appears it was not the case. It was a tough season for everyone. I am hoping he bounce back next season. There is a business side of things to everything. Putting Pax in the pressbox would not have been good for this team either. The best thing that can happen is that he bounce back this season and we maximize his return at the deadline or find a suitable partner to acquire an extra 1st round pick.

I am not ready to throw julien under the buss just yet.
