I simply went through hockeydb and picked out the highest producing
young players who were still draft eligible. I don't know a lot about Jr. A hockey but I am sure there are lots of people on this board who do. Do any of you know anything about these players?

Destry Straight is considered the BCHL's top draft eligible player for this years draft from what I hear. He will likely go between round 2 - 4, no Beau Bennett's this year.

Harms will be with the Wheat Kings next year in the WHL. Guy is unreal. Putting up points as a 16 year old. Played on Team West in the U17.

Any chance that Kyle Rankin or Matthew Peca will get drafted from the CCHL? Both '93s that are putting up a PPG. I'm pretty sure Rankin is commited to Princeton next season.

Juha is a good defenseman. Played with Lessio and Strome on the Marlies. Could definitely be in the OHL right now, but is headed to Clarkson in the ECAC.

You're missing Sam Mellor from the BCHL. He's a late-born '92 so is eligible this year. 33-34-67 in 45 games. Really intelligent kid, looks up to Kris Versteeg. He knows his limits but also knows the game inside and out.

I would also hope some team pulls the trigger on Penticton's Joey Laleggia. Yes, it's his second year through the Draft, and yes, he's 5'9. But he racked up 82 points- 26 more than the league's next-nearest defenceman- and was named MVP of the Interior Conference as well as Best Defenceman. The kid is just sublime at his position, and Denver's got a HELL of a player on their hands when he joins them next year.

I think if Mellor would have kept his early season scoring pace going the whole year he would have been a lock to be picked but he slowed down a bit and as an undersized forwardhis numbers don't look THAT impressive anymore. Still has a shot to get picked as well as Laleggia who could really surprise people in the next couple years after some season in Denver.

Evan Rodrigues had a good showing at WJAC, tied as a top scorer (3G + 4A) with Nikita Kucherov (2G + 5A). Maybe not a mid-round selection, but some team can take a chance on him as a late-round pick. He's a long term prospect, and he can turn a good college player, but NHL seems as a long shot. Purely offensive player, he deserves a look.

I've seen this kid play on person. Like you said, a long-term prospect but he has natural talent and knack for the game. I often found my eyes tracking him, even when I was trying to pay attention elsewhere in the game.

Two guys for the 2012 Entry Draft to watch out for are Evan Richardson and Braxton Bilous of the Victoria Grizzlies (BCHL)

Richardson's WHL rights belong to the Swift Current Broncos, but he has been playing great for the Grizzlies. An extremely smooth skater, who can find openings and make smart plays. The main concern is his size, at about 5'7, 5'8 guy, gets pushed around in the corners quite a bit. He's considering NCAA I beileve.

Bilous is a solid two-way defender who makes great first passes and is a smart player, committed to Merrimack College next season.
