First reaction about the return is that we got more for worse players (Rinaldo, Cousins, McGinn, Marody), but I guess the fact that he's older, has less/no room to grow, and wasn't even playing this year hurts his value.

Hopefully that's why and not that Fletcher is a worse negotiator than Hextall. We'll see when we get to the bigger trades.

Until then, I'm just happy he traded him away instead of just letting him rot and losing him for nothing. More importantly, this opens up a contract space and could lead to someone coming up. Weal was garbage at everything other than puck possession, so it'd good we're done with him. Speaking of Weal being garbage... I was sooo right about him being a lucky fluke in his first year. Come at me bros.

Weal is a UFA at end of the season too, unlike the 4 players you mentioned.

So...what's the point? The 6th round pick is unlikely to end up hitting Weal's level.

Or is this just recognizing that Weal doesn't have a future here with better talent in the pipeline and doing him a favor by sending him to an NHL team that is more likely to play him rather than stashing him in the AHL?
The 6th could end up being a tag along to move up somewhere in the draft

The value is fine.

Weal is 26, with 4 years of AHL experience and three shots to earn a NHL job.
Patrick is 20, missed two summers of conditioning and is learning the ropes.

Weal is a more skilled, less feisty version of Cousins, both are undersized, and lack top straight line speed.
Both are destined to hang around the edge of rosters, providing depth on bad teams, but never sniffing a top 6 role.

I think if they had moved Weal last summer, they might have gotten a 5th, maybe a 4th, but now with only a half season before he's a UFA, he just didn't have a lot of trade value. Not a 4th line guy (can't forecheck) and not a 3C on a good team. Has some offensive chops but is a liability on defense. Arizona paid a 6th for an extended tryout.

So we know have NJ's 3rd, AZ's 6th, Montreal's 7th.

Our last five 6th round picks

2018 - Gavin Hain
2017 - Olle Lyksell
2016 - Tanner Laczysnki
2016 - Anthony Salinitri :thumbd:
2015 - Cooper Marody :thumbd:

A few hits, a few misses, and a question mark. Not a bad roll of the dice.

Our last three 7ths all look like solid prospects too:

2018 - Westfalt
2017 - Kalynuk
2016 - Bernhardt

Who will drag the PP2 over the blueline now?

Say what you will about Weal...he at least had a real spark of the offensive creativity that's so valued in this NHL, and that is desperately lacking on the Flyers. He wasn't a difference maker, but he would not have been my first choice for shaking up this roster.

What's wrong with Marody, garnered us a 3rd rd pick, I'd say that's pretty good.
Hain had mono, we'll have to wait until next year to get a good read.

Bernhardt looks like he's reached his level, SHL depth, and probably will never come over.
Not sure about Westfalt yet, hasn't been able to stick in the SHL. 19g 0-1 1, but he's only 18.
Kalynuk is a steal, except Zamula may be a bigger steal.

HAHA! I knew Chuck Fletcher would blow this...LOL! He's a horrible GM. Look at the crap deals he made in Minnesota that made them worse.

Philly Management -- Please fire him!!! Hire Vinny the pizza salesman from King of Prussia Mall instead.

From the Flyers' site: The Philadelphia Flyers announced today they have traded center Jordan Weal to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft and defenseman Jacob Graves.

Per one site, Arizona owns/owned three picks in that round.

Whather that matters or not at this stage is debatable but "a" is not specific.

What's wrong with this trade?
Absolutely nothing of course. They traded an unproductive guy who has passed through waivers multiple times & who only has a few months left under contract for a 6th rd pick, clearing a roster spot for a younger player.
Anyone upset about this is just looking for reasons to complain.
