I haven't been pleased with Drouin's play on the Habs. We've all seen his hands and offensive skill, and he even looked like a better player when he was with Tampa as a kid. I think on the right team with an offensive mindset he could end up a high end player.

The Habs won't be that team any time soon and it's clear (to me at least) that the Drouin experiment has failed. He's not useless, by any means, but I'd much rather have his value in picks and prospects. No, he won't return say, a Sergachev, but I still think GMs looking for offensive help would be willing to acquire him.

    Any interest in Drouin?

We've been talking about this on our board a bit. To me, Drouin looks significantly worse than what he did with us. He was our fastest player by a good margin and we were/are considered one of the fastest teams in the league. At the time I think we were considered the fastest hands down (the NHL has gotten faster since then though). His speed was pretty comparable to what Brayden Point's is right now (he was considerably faster than Point at the time, but Point has gotten faster since then), and there's a solid case that Point is the 2nd fastest player in the league. Top 10 easily.

But, in TB, Drouin was constantly pushed. He had to earn every inch of icetime, every opportunity. It was obviously not the best thing for his relationship with the organization, but it's hard to argue that it made him a better player. Most of our fanbase believed he would wind up as valuable as Kucherov. He would flash incredible levels of skill almost every game.

Anyway, it's kind of sad to see things take such a drastic turn for the worse.

Would the Habs really give up on him so soon though? He remains a french-speaking player with elite potential, even if he's one of the more enigmatic players in the league.

This guy looked so good in junior. His vision and hands were other-wordly.

He was great in TB on the ice. If not for whatever was going on behind the scenes, I think he'd still be here.

He has his best game last game vs the Penguins, people need to relax. Montreal being Montreal, everything is over analyzed. Give it sometime, the kid is too talented and determined not to have success. He might not be a ppg player, but I'm sure he will become an impact player... he's only 23 years old!

You guys need to relax. Kneejerk nonsense like this is exactly how you’ve gotten to where you are.

I've watched all but a handful of his games since coming here. This is not a new player we haven't seen, this is the same Drouin as last year.

Also the bolded has been said of many guys who never reached their potential.

I think the segment they had on TSN the other day with Mike Johnson holds true right now. Drouin hasn't fully adapated to the NHL game, he's still looking to cherry pick- exiting the zone earlier instead of being strong on the puck/man and earning the opportunities going the other way.

Right now, he doesn't look good at all. Still think he's a talented player but he needs to key in on his development a bit and perhaps a change of scenery might help a bit as well.

I'm not convinced he'll ever drive a line in the NHL (Not many players can, to be fair), he can still be an elite entry/transition guy though.

He looks much slower on the Habs. That summer where he put on all the mass seemed to backfire. Last summer he said he would slim down some but he looks the same as last year. I think his lack of speed/jump is what's hurting his game. He's trying things that used to work for him that don't work anymore, so he just ends up giving the puck away over and over again.

I'm not persuaded that Drouin's problems are the same as he's always had in the NHL. In Tampa he had a lot to learn but he was still creating a lot of scoring chances. That well has seemed to dry up.

I think Sergachev was Yzerman's last true parting gift to the organization. How the mighty fall. It's actually depressing to witness.

You clearly seem agitated to me, as I have said to the 3 other people telling me to relax or settle down. I'm good.

Also 5 games into the year so what he's not a new player. We are plenty of games into the trade. This is not a knee-jerk reaction, and if you had decided to take the time to read my post you could have realized that.

In TB he was forced to play better, but he was so, so, so fast with us. There were long stretches in his final year where he was our best player. It's weird watching him now. He looks like he turned 35 somewhere between July 2017 and now.

You have to be trolling. This is not possibly a defendable position. The entire game can be seen still.

Yeah I'm wondering if there is a way he can undo whatever he did. It might be as simple as dropping 25 lbs, it might not, I'm not sure.

He gets harped on for not scoring enough... he does a lot of other good things that sadly go unnoticed
