Whoa!! Edit: til 34.. ok. Not my favorite, but I can live with it. With inflation, could be good 6-7 years from now I hope. Dumba gone now?

Not "run around the room screaming" fantastic, but I'm pretty pleased to have this out of the way at a reasonable number. Brodin's a guy that I'm happy to give term to.

I think at $6m you can keep both until someone makes it worth your while. Ideally Brodin's contract doesn't have overly restrictive trade protection, which would mean that we still have flexibility with both guys going forward.

Hmm, 7 years is a long time. I'm not happy it's as high as $6M, but it's not back-breaking.

Would he have gotten this on the open market?

NMC is irrelevant for the expansion draft. If he's not moved he'll be protected. Still shouldn't have a NMC but not because of ED.

I would have hoped 7 years brought the AAV down to 5-5.5. This is the ceiling for an acceptable Brodin deal. I'll take it for now. 27M is steep for a top 4 D core.

Agreed on the last point, which is why modest trade protection is important. I have no problem with an expensive blueline as long as the forwards don't demand it, but Priority 1 needs to be bringing in some forwards that do demand it.

It's steep for an average-to-good one. Not too bad for an elite top 3-5 considering no ELC's or bridges.
