Shouldn't be a suspension. It's a clean hit if he has the puck, and I'd say it's a situation where it's forgivable for him to not realize the puck was gone. Good penalty call by the referee, though.

What? He literally headshots Gaudreau as Gaudreau is turning around. This is textbook blindside.

Most definitely a suspendable offence if the NHL is at all serious about headshots. Clear targeting of the head here.

After he turned around. Gaudreau looking down at his feet doesn't make it blindside.

Headshot = not clean hit AS.

Incorrect. The NHL rules provide a framework for what is illegal and what isn't. As long as you aren't intentionally seeking the head (extending towards it upwards or outwards) and hit through the body, it's not a headshot. The IIHF has a zero head contact policy on hits, but the NHL does not currently.

Back in the day a play like that the guy would just rail him to the ice right through the body. McAvoy literally uses his forearm to knock down an unsuspecting blinded Gaudreau, who's much smaller than him, in the head area. Lol he should be suspended for not hitting properly.

Wait what? No player should be "unsuspecting" while standing right in/near the crease whacking at the puck. Also he was staring at his feet, not "blinded"

He starts moving in while Gaureau is turned away. He just happens to face the hitter right as it’s connecting... but it’s already too late to protect himself then, isn’t it?

My point still stands, McAvoy could have used his shoulder or body straight through for the hit, look at the .gif, mcavoy is like leaning forward after contact and even tips forward cause of it. He used his forearm as principal point of contact on a much smaller Gaudreau. Weak play by the kid. I understand him not wanting to hurt himself in the process but if you gonna make the big hit, don't cheap out on it, especially when your definitely bigger than the other guy.
