Though if your main concern is health, I’d suggest JT will probably hold up than the D man whose has as many major leg ankle and foot injuries as EK

My reservations about the Tavares signing aside I hope the Leafs can keep all their forwards and improve their dcore so they can make a solid run as a contender for many years, ultimately going to multiple finals and winning the holy grail over Tavares' time here. So Go Leafs Go! That includes you JT!

I know their players are technically making a little less on the salary cap, however Tampa Bay has shown they can re-sign Stamkos, Kucherov, Johnson, Killorn and Gourde among their forwards to long term contracts. Hell they also re-signed Hedman and McDonagh to long term contracts for their defense. So with the salary cap always going up I find it weird when others say the Leafs will have cap trouble, no matter what Matthews and Marner end up re-signing for.

Might have made for an interesting decision for the Leafs if Karlsson were to make it to UFA, however that would have been tough to bank on even more than it would have been for Tavares IMO.

Unlike Tavares, Karlsson was dealt going into his potential walk year (and fairly safe to say he wouldn't have been traded here) and I believe Karlsson also can't re-sign an eight year deal with SJ just yet, so that may still very well happen.

Anyone watching Tavares this year has to marvel at his consistency. He makes some mistakes but you can overall never say he didn't bring it game after game. He is dominant on the ice. If his focus could be bottled, I would transfuse it to every leaf including Matthew's. Tavares is the last person I would criticize on this team. These threads are childish

Matthews could really learn a thing or two from Johnny T. What a professional.

    What a strange thread.

Tavares carrying this team, along with the defense and the goalie. Andersen good tonight in New Jersey.

Like how to avoid getting injured from clean open ice hits. JT gets knocked around a lot. He must be a tensile SOB. A character guy. I remember how much against the deal I was before but Tavares deserves a ton of credit for how well the team did when Matthews was down.

Marner has 14 primary assists on Tavares 28 goals. I seriously doubt he scores only 14g without Mitch. And based on Marner's weak shooting percentage until the last 10 games it is fair to say that his failure to convert has cost JT at least a half dozen assists. I am not anti Marner at all but I watch the games too and they are feeding off each other and driving the line together. A symbiotic relationship because Marner is at his best with a finisher beside him and JT needs a linemate who pulls the checking off him so he isn't being smothered. Marner will outscore Tavares this year based mostly on the pp production where he is feeding the points which JT won't be doing a lot of.

Tavares could be producing more but we have half a season to play, and thanks to an absent Matthews he has been the main match up target. I doubt he has much range beyond his current 90pt pace but he may have some hot streaks left. This is JT's physical peak. Lets just enjoy what he is giving us in a season where Willie and AM have been part time help. Or at least wait till they are out of the playoffs to slag the guy.

The line is clicking and Tavares / Marner are great together. A treat to watch.

between july 1 and start of next season melander is gone, book it!!!!!!!!!!!

his entire season + POs will be an entire flop and when MM/AM make our cap issue impossible

they have will have to do what they have to do to keep the difference makers.

Friend, this isn't an attack on your opinion, but simply a comment to help. You don't prove things with opinions: you solidify your position, strengthen your argument, convince others of the validity of your point of view, but you don't 'prove'.

Worth every penny. Not sure how Matthews can justify getting more than him.

We need Tavares and company to show up against Boston now, games like that determine his true value. Final game of the season against BOS, we need to bury them to send a message.

He had a good game tonight with two goals and an assist. Now sitting at 29 goals, 21 assists for 50 points in 43 games.

A 50 goal and/or 90 points season remains well within striking range for him.
