You may say, why would he, look what the Jets are doing, lets say they get to the finals this year and fall short or even win the cup, why wouldn't he go there with that team and all the cap that they have.

Connor $925,000 - Scheifele $6,125,000 - Wheeler $5,600,000
Ehlers $6,000,000- Tavares $10,000,000 - Laine $925,000
Tanev $1,125,000- Stastny $4,000,000 - Little $5,291,666
Lowry $1,500,000- Copp $1,000,000 - Armia $1,500,000

$43,991,666

Byfuglien $7,600,000 - Morrissey $5,000,000
Trouba $5,000,000 - Kulikov $4,333,333
Myers $5,500,000 - Chiarot $1,400,000

$28,833,333

Hellebuyck $6,000,000

with rumors that the salary cap going over 80 million. This team would be scary and the favorites to win the cup.

Might as well fire his agent and save himself some money because no agent will ever allow this lol

Max contract, paid almost entirely as a signing bonus. NMC. 1 year?

Tavares still laughs at that

Can we take a moment and notice how Stastny is somehow also signing for $4mil in this scenario?
I noticed this as well.
Trade Perreault and get Stastny for $4 million.
$4 million?
No way. He's not taking a pay cut like that when he's in his prime and producing like a star. This isnt what you call a team friendly deal this is just disrespect.

so the premise is that Tavares wants the jets to win so bad that he takes a huge risk on a 1 year deal that knocks another year off his prime and risks major injury that could cost him his big payday?
Well i see the Leafs say the same thing. What;s the difference/

Stastny and Trouba numbers are low. JT would only do this if he thought it gave him a cup.....possible but highly unlikely

Because passing up on the extra 60 to 70 million dollars in guaranteed money while still being able to go to a legitimate contender to try and Hossa things isn't a sound life choice. There's no guarantee that even with Winnipeg getting what you put out there that they're going anywhere next season. That's a lot of unwarranted faith in a team just now establishing their capability of proving themselves in the playoffs especially when parity is still a big thing in the NHL.

Most guys aren't Hossa that one time.

The reality is the money is far more guaranteed than Cups. Given the choice, as long as it's within reason, they will take the money each and every time. They will rarely take less to stay with, or go to, a specific team, if they're in a position to demand what they want. Players didn't want free agency to take less. There's an exception every now and then, but never assume it.
