In contrast, Semin's 6.7 1-year then INCREASE salary for 54 points in 65 games and potential upside of 80ish points, ensures he will go in free agency to the team that overpays for him. Hejduk's 56 points in 71 in not at all better than Callahan or Bourque's as a projection of the coming season.

Yes, Semin is the potential star performer and the most talented in the trade. But, at best, this trade adds 20ish points to the team getting Semin while losing both acquired players in free agency, while two good, possibly improving mid-career guys (26 and 29 year old) who are scoring liners under decent, noninflated longer term contracts.

Minnesota wins the deal for sure imo. Of course, if the Wild come up a few points short in the standings this coming season, the difference might be the Semin trade!

Well you probably are right, but I'm a big Semin fan and IMO Bradley's recent comments might spark Semin to have a fantastic year, he surely has the talent to be up there with the best in the game.

And he probably wants to turn that 6ish salary into a 10ish mill long term fat payday in next summer's free agency, an incentive for him to have a career year. His passion and commitment have been questioned, but maybe the money motive will light a fire under him.

Exactly that's why I traded for Semin, like you said not that many players have the potential to score that many points.He also plays on a good team meaning he will also have a good + -.

I confirm, I had m eyes on Ekholm for a while too, I think he could even start the year in Nashville. No doubt Gardiner as good offensive potentiel but you have too give too get.

The fact that we both had strong interest in the other one prospect is probably the reason why this deal was so easy to do for both of us.
