Joel Ward announced his retirement today on The Players Tribune. Enjoy retirement, Wardo, and thanks for the memories! We'll always have Boston 2012.

Indeed a Big Goal for the brief Hunter-as-Coach-Era Caps.
I hadn't realized that Ward had not appeared in a game - at least at the NHL level - since playing with the San Jose Sharks in 2017-18.

I thought he announced a couple months ago? Guess he made it official today. Love Wardo, have a signed jersey. One of my favorite Capitals.

I honestly thought he’d retired a while back...

Such an easy dude to root for. Obviously his goal against Boston was his highlight in DC but his 2015 postseason also had a few big goals: G7 against the Islanders and G1 last second goal against the Rangers.

A playoff beast, shame he didn't get the cup with San Jose.
