It’s dependent on a separate trade for a defenseman. If that happens, Edmundson becomes available for the best return that doesn’t require retention or cap coming back the other way. Perhaps that’s a mid-round pick of some sort? Depth is good, but sitting Fleury or just scratching Edmundson is a waste of next season’s cap space because of the bonus overage.

With that in mind. I do think Edmondson be an upgrade on those guys. But you are right
