Mentions he can't place the other team, but there were definitely talks with Colorado, so there's some suspicion it was them. Dale Tallon later denies this saying they scratched Kulikov because of his play to give him a refresher.

  • Tim Murray (BUF GM) says they tried to get another 1st, and could have moved up two spots, but decided not to. Two spots would have been the Kings pick at #29, who were seen talking to Joe Sakic right before their pick. Brenden Lemieux, Ivan Barbashev, and Roland McKeown were still on board.
  • Preds draft video shows Poille (Preds GM) saying Rutherford (Pens GM) told him he could get #23 (Avs 1st) to add to his #22 in a deal for Neal. Avs deal wouldn't have been for Neal since that's the deal the Preds and Pens were working on.

Like a breath of fresh air. Looking forward to seeing what Sakic will do this off-season.

I highly doubt that Anders Carlsson is still scout. He is the GM of Rögle BK in Sweden since a month or so ago.

I don't know, he's still listed as a scout on the Avs site.

Maybe his full time job is GM over there, but he advises Pracey on what he knows of the Swedish players he sees. Could explain their lack of knowledge, and picks out of Europe.

Good thread idea. Hope to see this one filled up with all sorts of nice things.

There's lots of info and reactions in some of the older threads with FG and Sherman, in case you hadn't seen those. The links are at the bottom of the first post here.

It's worth a look for nostalgia, and to remember what their record was like.

Just throw Seth Jones up there right now. We both agree he's the pick. ;)

Thanks for creating this thread. I like having these to keep track of all the moves.

If it's alright with the rest of you, because Foppa has so graciously made these threads, and done a great job with them, I feel that it's necessary to Un-Sticky the Greg Sherman thread, what do you all think?

Fair enough RR. Jay Feaster wasn't a "hockey guy" either, and he was my top choice.

It's an experiment nonetheless, but I'm a little bit more confident that Biller will be riding shotgun handling more player personnel issues.

Best reaction in all the threads.

I don't even know if Ensane still posts, but sorry, I had to.

So their first move is going to be who they hire as coach, then the draft, then free-agency and/or maybe a trade or two.

June/July could be pretty interesting months. Does anyone really think anything significant besides hiring a coach is going to happen before the draft?

What's the date for negotiating extensions on guys like O'Reilly, Duchene, Stastny, Landeskog, McGinn, Downie, Varlamov.

Pretty much our entire core plus a few important guys have one year left on their contracts. How many get extensions this off-season?

I'd like to see all three centers locked up long term this off-season at the very least. Landeskog and Varlamov may end up being next off-season, seeing as how they had a rough year.

I can also see McGinn getting an extension, in the 20 goal scorer range. Something between 2.5-3.5M/yr for 4 years?

Coaching,....

Tippet
Eakins
Roy (Does not sound likely with the 'Experience/Junior' comment)
AV (It's been reported that he is NOT going to be fired, so also seems unlikely.)
Ruff (Not really that excited about this being possible, but it is)

So there are basically two coaches with NHL experience, and Eakins, but those are my choices for coach in order.

I don't see anybody getting an extension this summer... maybe Duchene has a slight chance. Plenty of time to negotiate contracts with everybody during the season and right after.

I would add Boucher to the coaching list.

They better be talking with O'Reilly and his people about an extension the moment that they're able to.

I believe they can talk now and even agree to it, but can't sign anything until July 1st. I expect there will be discussions with all free agents this summer, but I don't expect any signings.

Yeah forgot about him, I'm not sure he fits 'experienced', or at the very least the 'up and coming' tab either.

The funny thing is, we have absolutely no idea if they consider AHL success as experience. In one way you can say a good AHL coach has 'Pro' experience, but not exactly experience in the way of the NHL.

If this is the case, it's a massive failure on the new regime's part.

O'Reilly and Stastny are questions that need to be answered NOW not later, if Stastny isn't extended he needs to be traded at or shortly after the draft. If O'Reilly isn't extended, he needs to be traded at the deadline, especially if Stastny has already been extended.

If nothing happens between the two, every day they get closer to next off-season the situation gets just a little more dangerous.

If they lockup our center core now it really alleviates a lot of pressure, and questions moving forward.

I have to say Joe gets into pretty tough situation. What to do with Stastny/ROR/Duchene situation. What to do with all RFAs/UFAs which are expiring in a season, especially, Landeskog, ROR, Duchene, McGinn, Downie, Varlamov, Elliott, Barrie etc.

I don't think It's optimal for Joe, but let's hope he survives well.

It will be interesting to see what kind of direction Joe will take this team, does he trust our current core? Varlamov, Johnson/Jones, Duchene/ROR/Landeskog?

I am happy for Joe. Hope that this means a new (better) era for Avalanche hockey. This offseason looks good so far.

The only thing I am really curious about is Josh Kroenke being the "successor" of PL as a president. Does he plan to get more involved now that Popeye eh Seth Jones joins the Nu.. Avs ;) or didn't they want to just hand over the far reaching power of PL to a young buck ;) like Sakic?

I have a feeling, that ROR's chance of re-signing with Colorado just became little bit more likely.

I think so as well, but that's just pure speculation on my part.

I maintain my theory on the situation between O'Reilly and the Avs' front office was largely (possible pun intended?) Eric Lacroix. Now I've got no proof of this, but I think the timing of EL's "resignation" is suspect

Exactly. Thats my reasoning as well. Lets hope we are right. I would like to keep ROR.
