Mauer will likely be a crossroads of sorts for the Hall Of Fame voting committee. He played more games at 1B than catcher, but it seems the days of just strictly playing catcher for 120+ games are gone.

Sure, Yaider Molina is a hall of famer according to some people but Mauer isn't? Whatever you say, mostly dumb Cardinals fans.

His wRC+ from 2014-2018 (when he was primarily a first baseman) was 103, which is barely replacement level.

I'm not sure if he's a HoFer. I'll have to dive into the stats more.


A wRC+ of 103 is nothing to write home about as a first baseman, but the stat is scaled so that 100 is average. Thus, 103 is 3% above average, which is very comfortably above replacement level.
