I think a lot of people are under rating what Slater brings to our team, the type of injury he has there is a good chance he has been playing hurt for a while.Slater is a legit 4th line center we need to improve his wingers and the third line he is the least of our concerns. As far as Clitsome goes Ellerby,Pardy and Stuart should be all ahead of him on the depth chart all 4 of them have there flaws but they all bring something to the table and Clitsome brings some added offence from the D which is probably the least of our needs he is weak at getting the puck out of our zone I would say even worse then the other 3.Bottom line is we need a upgrade at 2nd pairing LHD that is either short term or can move down the line up once Morrisey is ready.

When Buff comes back to D, play him with Bogo and have Trouba and Enstrom together. Pardy Ellerby 5-6. Maybe Maurice won't be so married to LD RD.

I really want Halischuk back in the lineup, cause hes good

I don't mind Halischuk but he is to small and weak for the western conference.I don't mind him as a extra forward but he isn't a permanent guy on a good team especially on the west

And all he wants to do is grind, which he can't really do that well. He's skating to the end boards to cycle when Schiefele is leaving him a drop pass to score a goal. He's a decent player on the defensive side of the red line.

Que one of the reasons why I disliked the AHL, hated going to games expecting to see so-and-so only to find out he had been recalled by Vancouver...

Good for the player, and the parent NHL club, bad for the AHL team and it's fans.

not really partial to anyone on the AHL team except Cormier and Lipon. We've got a while with them soon. Hopefully we get some big names down here soon though, struggling to stay afloat in the playoff race

The numbers suggest he isn't very useful defensively. He is decent on the PK though. Better than Wright.

He is essentially a tiny James Wright, but way better.

  • Slater is a 4th line centre. Noel did try him on the 3rd line during the pre-season, but it didn't pan out. We've got 6 centres now, with O'Dell having to play wing (his off wing at that) to get any ice time. Assume we don't re-sign Jokinen, that leaves us with 5 centres next year. O'Dell and Wright have the same number of points. O'Dell has 2 goals in 8 games, and Wright has 2 assists in 47 games :shakehead Next year I see
    1. Little
    2. Scheifele
    3. O'Dell
    4. One of Slater or Wright
I'd trade Slater if I could, and have Wright as #4 C; scoring not expected.
  • Halischuk has more skills than Thorburn (who doesn't?). TNSE has been too loyal to the Atlanta old guard. Thorburn wouldn't be on any other NHL team's roster, and he shouldn't be on the Jets. This opens up a space for Halischuk.
  • Clitsome and Postma would not be so secure with 10 Dmen on the roster. But with Buff at forward, and Stuart probably no re-signing next year, that'll be 8 on the roster, plus any prospects. Pardy and Ellerby are hot right now (leading the team in +/- :amazed:). Keep them and try to trade Stuart. But I'm afraid this is another case of being too loyal to the old guard.

Good news for Postman:

Also converted to a regular jersey from a no-contact orange one he wore Sunday was defenceman Paul Postma, who has been cleared for full contact and practise.

Postma has been out since late October because of a blood clot in his leg. It has since cleared up but Postma was required to run through the full three months of blood-thinning medication before returning to action.

It's too early to write off Postma. He's had his ups and downs but imo he hasn't really been given a chance to play his game at the NHL level. He's an offensive puck moving defenseman who is a PP specialist. burying him with Stuart in a shut down role is poor use of his talents.

He is suffering from confidence issues too. I remember him jumping up into the rush more often last season when he was a rookie than the limited time he got this season. To me it looks like he is terrified of making a mistake.

Postma is a good skater and has a hell of a shot something we haven't seen enough of from the point this season.

He's a RH PP specialist on a team with Buff, Trouba and Bogosian already capable of playing PP.

If Buff stays at forward, Postma's usefulness goes way up. But if you're a bottom pairing defenseman you need to get used to having a plug partner like Stuart, Pardy, Ellerbe, etc. I guess him and Ellerbe have never played together, they could find some chemistry as they're both less physical, more puck skill style players.
