I find this matchup interesting, strikingly different teams.

The big question for Seattle is how to contain Orr (more on that later). I do think I still have a solid goaltending advantage but Bower’s playoff resume makes things closer than in a regular season matchup.

I feel like our top two lines couldn’t be more different, Fedorov/Keon is a real bitch to go up against.

A couple different looks that Bowman would try this series is to load the top line up. Conacher/Espo/Bathgate would have a VsX up over 300. As a line they could simply overwhelm any of Toronto’s lines. In this case Bowie would go to the bench, Lemaire would centre Barber and Rousseau and Murray Oliver would jump in between the Russians.

Another look to use on the road would be to split the big three onto their own lines and go with Alexandrov/Bowie/Bathgate, Conacher/Lemaire/Vikulov and Barber (or Oliver)/Espo/Rousseau. Then roll them and play whoever has the hot hand more.

I think Seattle's weak defence will be the end of their team especially when you consider they only have 3 front line defenders then a group of #7s

orr and brewer could easily jump up on the offense and pepper hasek who only has one cup compared to bower and rickters 5 cup wins.

Sorry what?

Konstantinov and Cook are at least top 5D in this draft, sure they don't quite have the star power your set has but they are fine

Yeah Hajt is obviously a specialist in the 6 spot so I get calling him a 7 but I don’t see how the other 2 should be viewed that way.

The more I think about this series it really comes down to two things, can Hasek cover for my lesser D and can Orr cover for Toronto’s lesser offense. Then it’s just a matter of degrees, how much does Hasek need to do vs how much does Orr need to do.

So in my research of how best to slow Orr in the POs I’ve been looking at the Orr/Espo era bruins and this seems as good as place as any to discuss.

Thought I’d open with the 71 POs

Counting Stats
Orr 7-5-7-12
Espo 7-3-7-10

The obvious way the bruins were stopped this year was named Ken Dryden. 3 goals from Phil was a big disappointment. From all reports this loss is on Espo and the great work by Dryden.

In terms of how this should be interpreted in terms of the ATD series at hand, I think it’s kinda a saw off, sure Espo loses credit here but Hasek is certainly capable of pulling off a Dryden like series. Another side note from this POs is the underrated play of Jacques Lemaire.

This is SO close (imo)- closer than I thought it would be on first inspection. I believe Barber to be a marginal Hall-of-Famer. I recognize that in ATD, Left Wing, perhaps more than any other position, is one where the soup gets thin pretty quick after the first few elite LWs. That Delvecchio was a better player than Barber- I have little doubt, but... Delvecchio's time as a regular Left Wing was through after age 27, per Hockey Reference. Still, I'll give an edge to Delvecchio.

Irreverent thought- will the ATD playoffs have AT referees who won't be afraid to call non-concurrent diving penalties?:naughty:

Both Phil Esposito and Sergei Federov are players whom I consider to be undervalued in the HoH community. That said, I'm calling this one for Esposito. No slight to Federov, who will mesh well with his line and can flourish in a variety of roles. Espo's ability to add to the scoreboard is just too great. [I think this is closer than Delvecchio-Barber, however.]

Andy Bathgate and Teemu Selanne: the difference between the two would be hard to measure with a micrometer. I'm relieved to see that Bathgate is valued quite highly in the HoH community. He was a great- and spent the prime of his career with butt-nothing in the way of help [with the Hapless Rangers]. Two elites, two obvious Hall-of-Famers- and the biggest advantage Selanne has is that he's fresher in most people's memories than Bathgate.

Advantage to Toronto- but fractionally.
